Hi everyone,This week at work we are working on small structural steel that need to be deep galvanized, Nothing big, 4" channels, W 8@13, you know small structure. We have some part that are about 10' long, the part is a 4'' channel welded to a 10'' channel flange to flange, The welding symbol ask for 2'' long in 16'' C/C Staggered weld, notthing really complicated now,My foreman (who is also worker) is doing some of those parts with me, when he's fitting those parts, he's making a 1\4 bevel at every welds for the preparation, but the drawings doesn't ask for a bevel, when i ask im about that, he said ''it need to be strong and good penetration''To me since the drawings doesn't ask for that AND the weld is not even ground flush or something, making a bevel like that at each welds, on 10' long pieces for about 140 parts seem to be a waste of time in this situation, the edge joint of the two channel leg looks like the top left picture.Normaly i work on stairs and raillings and misc steel work, and i can do most of the time what i want and making stuff stronger than requiere or better that what drawings ask, but for structural jobs i've always been told ''do what is on the drawings''http://www.torontodrawings.com/resou...dge_Flange.jpgLast edited by LayoutMan; 04-13-2014 at 12:02 PM.Calculator > Bevel Square
