So, I'm a helper at work doing post weld cleanup. E have a lot of product that is galvanized ads when I flush out the beads there is porosity 50% of the time. The company is using ER70s-06 as their standard filler. I spend a lot of time rewelding these spots. Is there a better wire they could be using? And, until that happens (which I doubt), what are some tips for a better weld?Do what it takes to get the job done right.
Reply:better prep would help.  sand the galvanized coating off of the weld area before welding.  Alternatively, crank the arc control up.

Reply:On galvanized I often try a whipping motion much like E 6010.  The idea is to burn away the zinc up ahead then back in the puddle to weld.  Really the proper way to do it is to remove the zinc for one inch on each side of bead but we live in a world where "Ideal" does not exist.
Reply:Remove the galvy, zinc does not make a sound weld when welded over.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
