I sold both machines I had for sell tonight. My Miller 130 XP and mw Longevity 160P. I am seriously considering the Thermal Arc 181i. Any thoughts on that machine.

Reply:I found the TA181i from cyberweld for $815 with free shipping. Unless somthing changes it will be ordered tomorrow.
Reply:I  believe it is DC only , so it wont work on Alluminum. It is a great value!
Reply:I have been reading reviews and I am sold on it. Just sitting here thinking I will have to build a cart for it and if I had the measurements I could have a cart built by the time it got here. The it occured to me how hard that would be since I sold both welders. Duhhhhh.
Reply:If you are in need of Thermal Arc welders or plasma. I just recently bought me a the small 161STL, for $700 brand new from my LWS. I am sure he will get a good deal on the 181. I'm stuck on Lincoln, but was strapped for a small portable DV welder. So far TA has been good to me so far.
Reply:The LWS I use here is a TA dealer but cant match the online prices for new machines. They are very competitive on prices of most things and carry a huge instock selection. I really hate not buying a machine from them but over $150 difference is significant.

Reply:I was looking at Cyberweld and theirs is $815 and the Tig set up is $107 total $922Welders Supply $799 and $119 total $918Looks like Welders Supply is in the front running. Has anyone done business with Cyberweld? How are they to deal with? Both places are free shipping.
Reply:BHARDY, I have used Cyberweld on several occasions , purchased tungstens, Speedglas 9100 helmet, filler rod and much more.  Have found them to be very reasonable with their prices which includes shipping and the items which I purchase arrives with-in two days so I have no complaints with them.  Recommend them highly!  Bob
Reply:BHARDY, one other place you might look at for your purchase is WELD SPECIALTY SUPPLY.  I just purchased an Arc Master 200 from them and they had the best price I could find for this welder.  Bob
Reply:T/A 181iHave a 181i great welder small portable and has a lot of power for the price with a lot of great features.  Got mine with the tig torch set up i am use to using the lift arc as that is all i have on my miller maxstar 152.  I built a cart for my 181i to make it a true portable welder works for me will be modifying the cart to make improvements but no time right now.  I am not a hobby welder only use the welders for my job and only need dc tig for stainless steel dairy tubing.  You will like the machine Duane
Reply:i bought my mm251, dynasty 200dx, spectrum 375, 30A, victor journeyman set and elite hood from them. cyberweld is a great company
Reply:I just purchased the 181 from my LWS yesterday.  I can't wait for my generator to come so I can start using it!
Reply:Just placed my order with Cyberweld. I spent $4 more on the machine and tig option but I also plan to order a few more things that I didnt find on welder supply site. Now the wait begins.
Reply:i recently bought both the ta 181i and the mm211 from my local Air Gas for my shop and finished the carts for them yesterday.  i played with both for about an hour and i have to say the mm211 runs like all small millers with a little hotter start then my mm175 but a little softer than my mm252. the 181i seemed a bit hotter on the settings than the chart. my 14 yr old boy welded with both of them for about 6 hours and says he likes the 181i better. he didn't like the auto set at all on the 211. we haven't tried the stick or tig features yet on the 181. paid $1400.00 out the door for the 181i with tig torch, foot pedal and spool gun and extra tips and 2 spools of wire. from the few minutes i played with the 181 i think it will be a fine machine. i like the tweco gun and 2' longer gun lead better than the 211's m100 gun. better ground clamp also. have fun with your new 181.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw

Reply:I already have most of it cut out. Got to cope the corners and cut out some smaller pieces. Will be ready to weld it together once I get it and its set up. I have a Husky 26" roll tool chest that I removed the casters and cut a piece to fill the flanged area underneath. It will be mounted on the frame and is a perfect platform for the machine to sit on top of with enough room to put a plasma beside of it in the future. Argon and 75/25 bottles mount behind it. Gives me storage space for consumables and some hand tools. All sitting on 4" casters so it will roll easy.

Reply:LOL, I was in the shop yesterday trying to get a design idea in my head and finally settled on how I was going to build it. I would like to take the time to TIG it out but I am not sure if I am proficient at TIG to do it. I have a few more pieces to get cut and still have to go to the LWS for a few items. Good thing tomorrow is also payday. I will post pics of the new cart when finished.
Reply:Welder arrived today. Nicely packaged and no shipping damage to outside of box. Got everything wired up and hooked according to directions. Thermal Arc does a good job of giving set up info in the manual. All I have tried so far is the MIG. I have to say it is a huge difference from the Millermatic 130. I set up according to the guide on the inside cover (handy). Set it up to weld 1/8. Way to hot, that thing was cooking. It runs like bigger machines I have used. Turned it down to the settings for 1/16" steel and it was better but still seemed a little hot. Its going to take playing around with. I am really impressed with the MIG function of this little machine. Reminds me of a chihuahua, got the attitude of a big dog and doesnt have a clue it has such a small body. Will post more as I try out other functions and use it more.Originally Posted by bhardy501Welder arrived today. Nicely packaged and no shipping damage to outside of box. Reply:I had surgery to loose weight years ago and on rare occaisions I get a blockage because the passage for food to pass through is small. Usually it will clear itself but this one didnt and I spent about 4 days where nothing would pass solid or liquid. Had several occaisions where I got extremely sweaty with no fluid intake. It caught up with me before it cleared. Dr. had to go in with a scope and clear it. Now I am getting continious fluids. Get to go home in the morning. Will get some pics up tomorrow.
