Hey all I bought a pool fence for my pool and there is a rounded section of my pool deck, I've knotched out the fence section and bent it to fit the deck. The part I need some suggestions on is how to go about welding the areas where I've got up to 1/8 gap. I'm using a millermatic 211Fence is 18 gauge tubingWire I'm using is .035 and a gas bottleI was trying to start it on the piece then move the puddle out to bridge the gap at first but it just would burn throughI turned down the settings to about 22 gauge and am using method of tack pause . tack . pause. tack and so on so I don't get too much heatAnything I'm doing obviously wrong or do I just need more practice?(Should I try .030 wire since the pool fence is so thin? )Thanks
Reply:18 gauge vs. 1/8" gap. That's going to look ugly and yes, the only way to do it is start an stops. If you build up both sides, you might have enough meat to join them. Hey, that's why god invented grinders right?I assume you notched the tubing and then bent it at the notch?I would have suggested that you get a tubing roller instead:http://www.harborfreight.com/tubing-roller-99736.htmlAnd like all HF tools, to make them really useful you must modify them. With this one its already done for you:http://www.swagoffroad.com/HF_Tubing..._On_Wings.htmland:http://www.swagoffroad.com/Harbor_Fr...ng_Roller.htmlCon Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX

Reply:You might find some 1/8" or 3/32" tig filler might help to fill the gap. Put the filler in to fill the gap and tack over it. Then trim off the excess filler and move on to the next one. I'd probably opt for a dremel tool with cut off wheels in this case to have the most control, if you aren't real good with a grinder and zip wheel..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks all , and Ill look into the tubing rollers and benders from HF. I actually bent it by hand at first but it had the dimples in it , that's why I opted for knotching then bending . Ill post a pic if it goes good
Reply:Good ol, non structural gaps! I second the filler method, the other method is to bridge the gap and tack tack tack tack tack tack tack tack (What I've dubbed a "p*sser pass!") and then burn another one overtop.

Reply:SUPERARC, just use a hammer on the rod to remove coating. 10 seconds, 5 seconds with a BFH !!!! What diameter is the tubing ?? you maybe able to use a conduit bender. Either lever or ratchet type.
Reply:Its 1 inch tubing. It was just the one section I got it done ill post a pic later. I ended up using a tig rod I had as filler. Excellent idea
