Hey guys, i have a job this friday at an retirement home that has a stainless sink/counter. The crack is about 12'' long. My question is: after welding what is the best/fastest method to sand the weld down and finish the surface to the "scotchbrite" finish??? Should I bring my compressor and air tools? Thanks for all the help in advance. -Brandon-

Reply:take u a aluminum or copper bar to back or surround the repair area. Keep you a good stainless wire brush handy, if the crack is in a hard to access area thats about all you will have to take the color out of the ss. Since it sounds like you have no specialty tools for refinishing, a cut off wheel may be your best friend for grinding the weld down, some roloc wheels, some drum style sanding wheels, some scotch brite both for you grinder and hand. Most of the time if it is in a kitchen environment they are not picky about what it looks like. Good luck!
Reply:I'm just going to use my 90* air grinder. I have all the sanding pads from 80g to a fine buffing pad. Ill snap a couple of pics of the final result. thanks
Reply:Use a backer bar like kkustomz said or it will look like a taco when you're done. You have to add filler if you are going to grind down the weld. Reply:could you not grind down the weld with a flap disk, followed by finer sanding the surface to match the rest of it? |
