I have a small 110v Craftsman Wirefeed. I think it has maybe a 20% duty cycle at max output. I understand how duty cycle works but i am wondering how i can make sure i do not exceed the duty cycle and damage the machine.
Reply:I used to have a little craftsman mig and I hit the duty cycle/ outo shut off dozens of times....I doubt you'll damage it.Farmer2Hobart Champion EliteMiller S-32p 12Lincoln sp175tLincoln 225 ac tombstoneHarris oxy/aceteleneMakita grinders/chopsawHypertherm Powermax 45

Reply:They usually either shut off or a light turns on. RTFM (read the manual)Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:some machines kick a light on and become (cold) aka wont strike a arc until cooldown is reached, others will just flip the breaker switch
Reply:Who cares. If it goes kapoof and your serious you'll get a good machine. A craftsman welder is like a step below eastwood and a halfstep in front of harbor freight.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:I know I've exceeded the duty cycle on my old Idealarc many times, but it keeps on going. I just love old machines. "Hey I didn't come to look and learn, I came to turn and burn.... If I can't light up, I'm gonna light out!"-JodyIdealarc 250 "Fatman"MM 252MM 211 "Little boy" Victor Torches
Reply:Run it until it blows and upgrade ! It's only 120, burn it up and get into a 220 volt machine.

Reply:A lot of machines dont shut off. My on a hot day lincoln mig will just keep running until it heats up so much the weld loses most of its heat and just sits on top.Another thing to consider is ambient temperatures. If its at or around 40f its going to be difficult to get the insides of the machine hot at all.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder

Reply:Every machine I've hit the auto shut off on the welds have started to look like crap and not penetrated well before the thermal shutdown. When that happens its usually beer thirty to let the machine cool off for a bit.Miller 211 MIGThermal ARC 186 TIGHypertherm Powermax 30 Plasma |
