I am in the market for another TIG machine for my basic automotive hobby. Ill be welding aluminum pipe, brackets, and stainess steel pipe, mostly thin stuff. Either machine is more than capable of welding the material and thicknesses ill be working with.I am on a very tight budget. I can get a Hobart EZ-TIG for $1,255 shipped from Cyberweld, which includes everything I need to start except a bottle. The Diversion 165 is now $1,385, but I would need to spend an additional $150 on the foot pedal ( which the Hobart includes) which brings my price on the Diversion to $1535. Can I get some opinions on both machines? Why would I spend an additional $280 on the Miller Diversion over the Hobart? In my uneducated eyes, the Hobart looks like the obvious choice, but before I pull the trigger id like some other peoples input
Reply:They're the same machine, identical. I believe Miller makes it. I got the EZ-tig from cyberweld because it comes with the foot pedal, and it's cheaper.Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.
Reply:Did you ever consider a used 180 SD or a 200 syncro by MILLER ?  This would give you stick welding too. I got my 180 SD for 800.00 complete with foot pedal and all cables. I would prefer the MILLER . I would say go to the 185 Diversion . It always starts out with what you want to buy and then us guys want you to spend more. Check the specs on each. Here's my local supplier for a price check. Good luckhttp://www.weldersupply.com/products...s|Tig+MachinesHere's the Miller site if you want to do some searching.http://www.millerwelds.com/resources...ng-Discussions
Reply:problem is there is nothing used in my area
Reply:Miller doesnt make Hobart. They are owned by the same parent company. Get the Hobart since its cheaper and had a foot pedal.Personally I got the 180 because I don't have a 220v input. Keep checking craigslist, seems welders have a season for being on sale. Sometimes I find zero and sometimes I see a lot.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:I have the same problem as OP, very little used in my area, and what is used is high-end machine shop equipment far outta my price range!Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.

I'm surprised that Walmart doesn't sell Hobart. You won't find Miller at home depot, lowes, tractor supply, menards or any other big box store. What does that tell you ??http://www.millerwelds.com/resources...ller-Vs-Hobart

Reply:I'm wrong. I just found this  posted on the miller site 7:39 tonight.  In this case, they are the same!  I just went through the manuals posted at miller and they are the same. Amazing!  http://www.millerwelds.com/resources...ler-and-Hobart
Reply:**Update!**I found a used Hobart TIG-MATE for $1000 bucks. Only thing I'd need is a bottle. Any reason NOT to jump on the used TIG-MATE for $1000 versus a new EZ-TIG for $1255?Need some quick advice so i can pull the trigger on whichever is better
