Estimated welders,I'm a structural engineer and I'm expecting to work in the construction of a hangar. Among the tasks that I will have to perform will be included de elaboration of the specification of the testing program for the diferent kinds of welding that will be performed in the structure. The structure will be welded partialy in a workshop (factory of steel structures) and some connections will be prerformed by welding in site. The steel (base material) that will be welded will be a steel very similar to the ASTM A36.What I would be very glad to recive assistance on, is in which AWS or any other specification could I find the way of determining the amount of tests that have to be done on the weldings and the type of test that should be performed.Nevertheless, any other kind of comment or suggestion will be very much welcomed. Thanks in ahead.Alejandro Laurora

Reply:A person who sets out which standards will be followed and designates the testing of weld procedures and the testing of the welders is called a "Welding Engineer". Alejandro, I think you need to hire an engineer that is qualified. This work is not part of a structural engineers job. |
