jig for laying out handcuff hatches

i just finished a project where i had to build and install handcuff/feeding hatches in 60 cell doors. to keep the hatches at a uniform height i built this jig out of sheet metal. the side and the bottom legs had a 90 deg. bend so all i had to do was fit this to the cell door, make sure it was tight to side and bottom and mark it then drill the corners with the magnetic drill and sawzall the marked lines Attached Images

Reply:were very old school here.  99% stick. the rest being 110 mig, brazing or silver soldering. good welding equip? i could order what i needed once or twice a year and i stocked up. right now i'm using welding rods i ordered over 10 years ago. money for equip is very tight.
Reply:dualie: this housing area was closed about a year but not because of the welding. a waste line broke under the cellblock corridor. a squad of guy's came in and chopped a 4'x4' hole in each end  of the floor and tunneled the whole length of the house. all the dirt was piled into the cells so we had no access for that period. our work will take 3 or 4 months

Reply:Sounds like the hard way to do the job to repair the pipe. I've have just saw cut the length of the floor and dug it up and replaced the crete when done. I did enough of that digging for plumbers putting myself thru college. Tunneling opens up a huge can of worms if you have to do it by the book and shore everything. Wouldn't surprise me if MSHA wouldn't apply.I can guarantee I dug up pipes under worse floors and a heck of a lot deeper inside buildings than they had to deal with.  At worst I could see having to drill and epoxy dowels the whole length and tieing in bar in the replaced slab, but that's not really any different than when they do road work..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
