Hello, Thought I would share a battery box I built. I know, I know PLEASE not another box story I used 1x1 6061 angle for the lid 45deg welded together with the tread plate for the lid. The rec tubing is 1/8 1x2 6061 that I boxed the ends.I got the tread plate from a friends junk pile it came from the floor of a bull rack he pulls. This goes against the welders hand book, but I do not know the grade of the tread plate. I cut 6 pieces for test stips welded them together, welded nice with 4043 045 filler rod, then beat and twisted them into submission, they held together so I went with the idea.Tig welding the tread plate was not the most user friendly thing I ever welded with the raised and lowered portions 1/8in tread rise.I used a dremel to cut down the rise of the treads to mount my switch and angle pieces for the lid hold downs flush with the base material. The battery will run my radio and lights for the welding trailer.Iam hoping my chevie will charge it when Iam driving. Reply:Very clean look. Good job. Wouldn't be able to use that type of mounting hardware here; they would have it all in about 5 minutes.
