It seems 90 A is a bit too much in which range should I be looking for doing the exhaust?I have that 90A Hf welder.
Reply:I'll take a wild *** guess.I don't know anything about your welder, even what type it is, what kind of stainless, how thick, etc.Since you're saying 90 amp I'm assuming you're working with a constant current supply, TIG/stick, so I'll say run about 50 amps ballpark. Not much help I know, but seriously what did you expect? lolWelding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:what gauge exhaust tubing? what type of joints? you're gonna need to throw a bit more info our way. When I welded up my trucks exhaust out of 16g 304 stainless I only used 55-65 amps on my butt joints.ESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
Reply:I'm not sure of the gauge which was why I never said.. it's not that thick..and it would be butt joint.
Reply:Oh, i understand now. It's not that thick requires not that much amps for a butt joint.
Reply:how about a picture? if you specifically purchased exhaust tubing you can be anywhere from 14 to 18g. My guess is its 16g as that is a pretty standard wall thickness for exhaust tubing. Try around 50 amps and see what happens there.ESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
Reply:probably 14-16 ga if it's similar to the SS exhaust tubing in my garage. if 90a is too much, reduce? what kind of welder are you using? Mig/tig? foot pedal control?Hobart EZ-Tig newbie.
Reply:he said a 90amp HF welder which i'm assuming is a harbor freight welder. Looking at their website the 90amp welder is a flux mig machine, so if you're running flux cored wire that came with it its definitely not the correct wire to us. You need solid wire and a tri mix gas to weld stainless properly with mig. You can weld it with the flux but it's not going to be stainless anymore.ESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
Reply:Would set the machine to 50amps and just use what you need with the pedal Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock
Reply:clayman nailed it."90A HF" welder.Good luck partner with flux core wire and "thin" SS.Take it somewhere that has a decent tig machine and knows how to use it. It would be a shame to trash that SS with the welder you have.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc. |
