Old Victor 315 handle with unusual inner tube which extends past the outer tube and has a taper to seat in the cutting attachment.Shown disassembled for clarity. No "taper with O-rings" joint like later Victors. The outer tube is straight internally. How ancient is this puppy and what attachments does it fit? Attached Images
Reply:The handle looks old, but last I read, was still available. I have one, and have owned several over the years. It uses a 24XX series cutting head. You should be able to get whatever you need at any LWS.
Reply:Hello Farmall. You have probably already figured this out, but just in case I'm going to share the answer with you. I have to admit this had me stumped when I first saw your post. I forgot all about it until I saw the reply by the other member today and was determined to figure it out. So I pulled out an old Victor 315 and as soon as I looked at it I knew what the problem was. There is simply a part missing from your handle. I will post some pics to show you what I mean.

Reply:Pictures 1 and 2 are what your torch probably looked like assembled. Pic 3 is your missing part and the last pic is what it would look like with the part installed. By the way, we have talked before and you probably just don't know it-I'm ebay user id laurilove99. I'm the guy that bought the parts from you. Anyway, I hope this helped, Hank.
Reply:You are of course correct but I violently brain-farted even though I've other Victor handles. The condition and heavy patina threw me since it looked older than it is. I had not taken any of the others APART since there was no need.DOH! That's hilarious. I got it in a lot with an Oxweld tip I wanted. It'll go in the parts bin since I have use for the valve bodies on a 310 handle I prefer.------I finally figured out what the thread on the Oxweld W-1 tip is. It's 1/8 I.P.S.(nps) which is a gas lighting standard still used in electric lamp fittings. It's a straight thread. The gas fittings may be another lamp thread but I don't yet have any larger lamp nuts to match up.After the tap arrives I'll see about having a tip made by my bud who has a machine shop. W-1 tips are very simple IF you have a mixer. The integral type wouldn't be worth the hassle.Grand Brass has lots of interesing lamp and related info, along with taps and dies for various lamp threads.http://www.GrandBrass.comLast edited by farmall; 06-06-2012 at 02:19 PM. |
