Was just curious to see what you folks prefer.I've always used a 12" disc sander, and never tried a belt sander.  I use it mainly to clean up tube and small pieces up to about 1/4" thick. You prefer a big pedestal disc sander or a belt sander? Thanks
Reply:i just use flapwheels myself, i might look into a bench belt though...StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:I picked up a supergood deal on this 12" disc sander for about 60 bucks @ HF.Works pretty good, but it will bog down if you push it real hard. Attached Images
Reply:Thanks JunkI was about to post almost the same questions.  I'm looking at those Belt/disc sanders.  I would prefer the smaller ones, I think the 4 inch belt with the 9 inch disc.  I have read alot of reviews about them but mostly the reviews are from woodworkers.  Anybody help Junk and I out...Sorry to jump in Junk, and thanks for asking for me.  Junk, what have you been looking at?
Reply:No worries Slag.  We're all here to help each other.  I was actually looking at a rebuilt Delta 12" disc on ebay, that was until someone went way overboard.  I'll pay for quality, but not $400 for a 12" disc.  Fla Jim, how's the quality in the one you have?I'm also keeping my eyes open for any auctions locally etc.  They seem to be like some top secret stuff though.  You'd think finding an auction would be easy but it's like trying to find the secret to life.
Reply:in my last thread auction steals you see i got a delta benchtop belt sander for thirty bucks I havn't used it yet but at $109 RETAIL I don't think i did to bad came with the owners manual too all the stuff i got did except the dewalt drill
Reply:Hi JunkI bought a 4 inch belt with a 6 inch disc sander from HF.  It isn't the one I see on line, and I will get the item number off it when I get home later today.  The difference between the two are, on my disc, it doesn't extend higher then the belt, so I can use the whole length of the belt.  It's heavy and was on sale for $69 at my local HF.  I used it the first day trueing up the beveled edge of my "Dan Brake" and it worked perfectly.  So far I have used it to sand off some paint on 2" tubing, again works perfectly.  I havn't used it for much else yet but it seems to be quite good.Just a foot note:I was "cleaning" plate, 3/8" by 44" by 9".  A little rusty.  I first used a flap disc, that made little waves all over the whole surface. Then I use a 3" by 21" hand helt belt sander.  It took out the "waves" and made the surface smooth.  Just for info.
Reply:As promised, I have the stock number for my belt/disc sander, from HF.  Since I last posted, I have used this sander several times and it's pretty nice.  I understand thats it's a smaller sander and I use it in accordance with it's size.  However, do not unintentionally try to stop the rotation of the of sanding disc with the knuckle of the pinkie finger.  Don't ask why I make that statement as I shall stand on the fifth so as not to.............Stock Number is 38123
Reply:Thanks SlagKing - appreciate the help.
