Can i carbon arc with my idealarc 250 i have heard that it is not recomended for transformer type welders
Reply:You might get better results by posting in the general welding forum, this is for questions regarding the site (non-welding). Unless you have an AC only 250 the Idealarc 250s are rectifier welders. Like I said, post in "general welding questions" and you will be more likely to find an answer to your question. Reply:Air/arc gouging needs big amps and seems to have a reputation of being tough on smaller machines.I use my t-bolt with a twin carbon torch for heating.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite

Reply:doc,I believe the general rule for paralleling welding machines is that you only do it with two identical machines.   There's some good info here on doing it safely.   http://www.millerwelds.com/pdf/Paralleling.pdf

Reply:If you look at the Lincoln literature on their website it lists the processes as stick, gouging, it will tig too but it is not like the newer inverter types. The Idealarc 250 should arcair fine as long as you don't exceed the duty cycle. I thought I read somewhere but cannot find it that they recommended small carbons(maybe 3/16) but that may have been Miller on the Dialarc or something else entirely. As for transformer versus inverter either machine, if adequate, should work but personally I'd be more concerned about toasting an inverter than I would a transformer type machine but that is a personal bias and the inverter guys will likely tell you I am full of beans.---Meltedmetal
