so, this is my first welding project. hell, it's my first attempt at welding for that matter.first pic is first design, then revised, then in place, then welds.i got about half done with welding it up before learning about position of the stinger and what impact that makes on the welds, lol. Reply:Wow that came out great. Definitely not what I was expecting to see when I clicked on this.Northern Tool MIG/Flux coreWEL-BILT 4 1/2 angle grinderYou gotta start somewhere!
Reply:here's the last of em.and here's a video Attached Images
Reply:Not what I expected either when I 1st saw the whole unit changed height.Your welds need work, but they are fine for what you need them to do. You say stinger, so I'll assume this is all stick. Small thin tube is a pain to learn on. Get yourself some larger pieces to practice on. Post up your welds and settings and we'll help you learn and improve..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Pretty cool.  I sit at a computer ALL day long and know the bennies of being able to stand from time to time.  Sure miss the adjustable drafting tables.  Being a newbie to welding myself i can say you really learn as you go     but I can't critique the welds and offer advice.  I'll let others that know do that. I picked up some flexible cable guide for the tv and all the junk attached.  That may go real well with your design.http://www.cableorganizer.com/wire-loom/colored.htmlDid you use a drive off an existing desk?
Reply:That's a pretty slick idea. A few people here at work have standing desks and love them but I can't bring myself to convert since they don't really have the option of sitting. I'd love to know where you got the motor setup, too. What do you do for a living? I'm not used to seeing an array like that where one is sporting the ubuntu desktop and another sporting the windows one. =)

Reply:Awesome, I have two laptops and a desktop running 2 monitors each.  I would love to just have one keyboard and mouse for them all.  Your project is a great idea.  IMHO if you run gas instead of flux core your welds will improve dramatically.  I have four tanks (oxygen, acteylene, CO2 / Argon and pure Argon) and my rent is only $275 per year.   A single bottle is pretty cheap I think my CO2 / Argon mix is about $25 for a big bottle refilled.  If you buy your own bottle everytime you bring it in for a fill they will want to hydro it or something extra to discourage you.  Renting in this case is cheaper.  Again IMHO"G"Last edited by ConductorX; 12-20-2012 at 07:48 AM.ConductorX - The Volkswright Shophttp://volkswright.blogspot.com/http://bugwerks.blogspot.com/Miller DVI w/Spoolgun - Miller Plasma Cutter

Reply:Ok the correct term would be "gun" then vs "stinger". Again I'd suggest working with larger pieces for practice. get 14 ga. The down side of that little HF machine is that FC is too hot for anything below 16 ga and it really doesn't have the balls to do much more than 14 ga, so that gives you a very narrow window to work in.It's sort of tough to see much in these picts because the slag is still on many of the beads and the welds are very short. My guess however is that you are going to fast many times and probably using too long a stickout. Those are fairly typical errors most newer guys make running FC wire.As far as gas on that little machine, I'm not sure it's possible. Search thru the HF section, you may find a gas mod for that machine. I know the cheaper Lincolns and Hobart FC only rigs are set up to run gas if you add the solenoid. Several guys have done that mod here in the past. Honestly I wouldn't dump too much money in that machine myself. You'd be much better served looking for a better used machine and using the money for that instead. There are a ton of short comings with that machine that you really won't be able to overcome easily. Use it to learn on since you have it, and keep your eyes open for  a deal on a better machine for the future..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:so.... why some many monitors ?Adam MMorales Ranch
Reply:So now your gonna need to take it all off again and paint it.... Right? That pretty cool. What stops it from going too high or low if you get called away or smell your toast burning? Why not just toggle your desktops? How do you feed the moniters multiple vidio cards? ps you need to make speaker mounts too.Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. So YES you can own too many tools.
