I've actually had my Lincoln welder for about 5 years and I've made all sorts of other things including an EVO motor cart (for Harley motors), a tube bending stand, etc..  Everyone says your first project should be your welding cart but for some reason I never got around to it until now.I recently switched my MIG from flux core to gas and this seemed like a great project to finally do.  That, and my welder had been sitting on the floor of my garage for too longI actually lurked through this forum pretty thoroughly and must have looked at about a 1000 or so carts, taking ideas and elements from several.  I wanted mine to be more of a "skeletal" cart and less of a cabinet-style cart.  I started with some 1.5x1.5 mild steel and used a single 2x3 for the main "beam".Once I had the main "skeleton" together I fitted it for the welder and found that the gas line interfered with the main support beam, so I chose to just notch the beam and weld it up.  I got some gussets online to help support the structure and the thing is totally solid now.  My welds actually improved as I went, but there are still some pretty ugly ones on there that I spent a lot of time cleaning up with the grinder.Any comments are appreciated.- S Attached Images
Reply:That looks like a bad azz cart so far!  I can't wait to see it all finished and holding your welder. What model Lincoln welder did you use?Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member

Reply:NIce cart, the notch is most likely for the gas and power cords
Reply:Been away for awhile (changed jobs).  The notch is for the gas hookup for the welder.  The welder is a 220 Lincoln. Here it is nearly finished.  I still have to build some hooks for cables and figure out a way to build a hook for the welding helmet. Attached Images

Reply:Nice. I see a lot of attention to detail in this project. While it doesn't matter on this project, some info on gussets and square tube. The center wall of a piece of square tube is the weakest area for side loading like that. If this was something where you really needed the gussets for strength, chances are the gussets would collapse the tube wall  under heavy load. If you want to structurally brace square tube, you either want the gussets in line with the outer walls, or you need to add a flat plate behind the gussets to thicken the material and spread the load out to the side walls..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:well done, looking good so far.are the wheels very far apart or is it just the camera angle?
Reply:Are those rear wheels air filled?Personally I hate the air filled wheels on the back of my cart. They are always losing air and going flat. I wish they were solid wheels of any material. One of these days I will change them out for solid wheels. I thought about filling them with great stuff but people say it just breaks down after while in tires.

Reply:Looks nice!! IMO I was looking at the center post was thinking it should be back over the rear axle a bit more for center of gravity. Iam sure you looked at that with it loaded up..just MO.Thanks for posting nice job!Miller 250DX HTP 221 DV AC/DCHenrob O-A Miller 180 MigMiller 150 Inverter   Hobart 10,000 Welder-Generator   Have a good day!!!

Squirt some into each of the tires through the valve stems and inflate then spin 'em for a couple of minutes. You may need to take 'em off the cart and tip 'em on their side to get the stuff to coat the area around the bead.- Mondo
