Just got this submitted to me as a new project, customer want a quote made out of aluminum. Here is a video of the unitand for those that do not like watching videos here is a diagram.Assume Aluminum metal costs $300 and plastic panels cost $300. so total material costs are $600.
Reply:How many do they want?  Just 1, or do they want 1,000?  To do just 1 you will have a ton of time in laying everything out and fabrication.  The more you make the more economy of scale you will get into as materials will be cheaper in quantity and you will be able to make all the individual parts in batches.  Final assembly would be fairly quick with some jigs built for the various components.
Reply:they want ONE. so unfortunately design time can't be averaged out over many units.
Reply:Are you sure you are not the same person as the banned member loolagigi??     Search his posts he was bidding this same job...   got a bunch of advice then got banned for being an azzhole to everyone that toook the time to help him out..Here is the build thread.  http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?p=1679601Here is where he got bannedhttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?p=1731161If u really are a legit business and person, I would say the guy wanting these booths is cheapskate and shopping for a lowball builder.    He said they already had one shop making them.   I would find out who that shop is and if the are current with them on paments for work done...   definitely something fishy going on there...Last edited by soutthpaw; 12-28-2012 at 12:54 PM.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:yep you jumped the gun. why would a banned member come back and post an identical question that got him banned in the first place?what's smells fishy is the lack of reasoning and finger pointing. admins maybe you can delete all the accusations so this forum doesn't look like a witch hunt.
Reply:I would charge 3 bottles of fine root beer, and a stick of gum.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:Back to the question.  This link is probably the most common type of weld on hinge.  if you look down the page a ways they have aluminum versions.    just about any metal supply usually stocks a few of the Steel versions but I think the aluminum would be a special order item.. http://www.houstonhinge.com/weld_on_barrel_hinges.htmlTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Without being rude to people, this whole thread with quotes to make these booths seem a bit suspect, I mean you really got to be a sandwich short of a picnic to be offered a job like this and not have a clue about pricing it up. Why did the customer come to you in the first place?? especially if you havn't got a clue what to do.Now its great coming on here asking for advise but asking someone to work out how much you should charge is really a paid request and not something that people would take time and effort in doing your work for you for free. You want my advise, Buy them from China for $200 end off.In all the years of production that i've had with my businesses no one has ever asked me to quote for 1 only, Mainly because its non productive, and normally a dam site more expensive, than say for 30 off. Especially if its a company wanting to make loads, why just get a quote for 1 when the quote is going to be expensive, that don't make sense.Lets hope we don't see any more of these suspect posts, basically wasting everyones time, especially the Mods who give up their spare time to make sure we don't put up with crap like this on a daily basis
Reply:I'm sorry you feel my post is crap. I didn't mean to offend anyone and I'll state once again you guys are all on the wrong witch hunt. Maybe you never get custom design request. I get them all the time. Just a different business.  A company is shopping around for the best price; that's nothing new either. And I dont' under stand the root beer, and $1,000,000 quotes, if you don't have anything positive to contribute why waste your time people? There is a feature called the ignore list in your profile. If my posts really ANNOY you that much just ignore me. Saves you from looking like a fool when you make false accusations.

Reply:To "positively answer your question" generally I figure the cost of material, and whatever that cost is I make my labor cost the same, or 40.00 per hour+ material. When I get a request like that its usually a production request. Like I recently did a job for a bike building company, instead of asking me to build one bracket they asked me to build 900 that is because its cheaper in volume. Now another suggestion would be google them and see how much they cost, and charge somewhere near that price minus any electronics.
Reply:Lol no one ever wonders what other people would charge? If people actually read my threads they would know I'm switching over to welding I could easily link to videos I did years ago  but I don't need to prove anything to witch hunters your hate for this lolgigi dude overwhelms you

Reply:We will believe it when we see it.   Close up pics of the welds, fab process, like how you do the radius curves in Aluminum etc.   You say you have built tons of booths but don't even have an employee that could weld.  Even an experienced welder on steel or stainless should be able to transition to aluminum pretty easily with some practice.    What were u making these tons of booths out of that required no welding?  R u a woodshop expanding to metal or what?If you search and read loolagigi's posts u will also find answers to 90% of the questions u asked about building it and costs.    Building only one is expensive because material costs drop a lot with large ordersTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:That's fine, you can doubt me.  And it is quite easy to make a photobooth without weldingphotoboothowners.com forums will give you about a hundred different ways.  if you are good at fabing up photobooths head over there and list your business card and you might even get some custom fab requests.... if you do more power to you and I wish you success...read up and enjoy. I'm not here to make enemies and I'm also not here to "show off" or anything like that. ....I appreciate any help I get.I get a few thousand dollars of AL from easternmetal.com every month. I am well aware of the costs of metal and how costs drop with a more abutment order.  I can hear the comments about how I'm lying about how much metal I buy coming on..... please don't bother.Last edited by AluminumWelder; 12-29-2012 at 12:26 PM.

Reply:Given the changing economy over the last 6 years and talking with local fab shop owners I can guess that  things are changing on the pricing side of jobs in labor costs.  Adding to the coincidence factor I know of a Dave and Busters that is going into a mall not that far from the op's location so who's to say that the booth isn't being subcontracted out by the contractor putting the D & B in.  I'm not a well seasoned welder or fabricator but it looks like the vast majority of the work involved is cutting and bending so figure regular labor charge plus additional towards equipment and consumables from filler to fasteners and adhesives.Welding Supervisor Department of Corrections.

Reply:I saw nothing on that website that said any thing about company's fabricating anything. Just a bunch of random crap

Reply:I am new to fabrication and run my own shop.i do custom woodwork with a lot of steel fabrication for bases, and I do repairs.  The key point to quoting is understanding what it will cost u to make this thing. I constantly get underbid by people who don't really understand their cost basis.  This impossible to give u a number, what u should charge your client. You need to know what it's going to take materials disposable and time. How many damn times u will have to make it to get it right (might be more than once) . What's ur skill level ? How much you want to make etc etc. these are individual questions for you to ask and figure out the questions to. Then there is another question can you even do it with equpment you have ? If you want feedback put your numbers and estimates down what it will take u for each step of THR fabrication and it will be a different discussion. So I say it should be 1 Billion dollars or 1c or somewhere in betweenI am just a software guys. I personally think this is a great forum and is one of the best of the net. I get ideas and help every-time I come here.
