This is a picture I took from another post (not in weldingweb). I am curious. Does this look like a cold weld or is it the camera angle? This is supposed to be a professionally done chassis. Attached Images
Reply:That "chassis" would never leave my shop looking like that. The workmanship is hobby level at best.http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:Kinda hard to tell seeing as those two you have outlined still have their slag and the actual weld is unseen. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2

Reply:This actually is a chassis from a well known manufacturer for these types of chassis. I believe the person who took this photo has bought it from that manufacturer. Incidentally, I think the date is correct.OK. Should I tell him about these welds and advice him to get them checked?

Reply:Some of those welds don't look "that" bad, but those two sure arent that great.Looks like light gauge tubing... If it was "professionally" done, shouldnt it have been tigged? I mean, Im sure a true professional could get good results there with a wirefeeder, but Im no professional and if someone brought that to me, Id break out the tig.[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:Thanks, Somehow managed to over look that thread, I'll be reading for the next hour lol[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4RrDeUKcH4[/ame] here is a cool video showing similar techniqueMaking as much progress as a one legged duck in the middle of a pond, just going in circles.
Reply:I have practiced and used that technique for competition. I have become pretty good at it, and most of the students followed suit and started using it after they seen what it can look like. The instructor taught us a "j" technique so we would throw more heat at the bottom plate. But I decided to try that ^^ technique and got results that I liked so I stuck with it. I would take some pics but my phone is turning them blurry.
Reply:and to the OP's question. You can have the right settings set for a material thickness, but it is still possible to get cold lap from improper techniques and or travel and work angles. from the looks of the other welds, he is not totally unskilled. Just those two could have been improper technique. Or maybe he had a gap and turned the machine down ( by no means is this an excuse, just a possibility).
Reply:Originally Posted by DSWIt's short arc using a cursive "e" pattern. Paul ( ZT) has covered his technique extensively in the "Mig like tig" sticky at the top of this section.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=30845Do us a favor and READ all of it before asking the same questions that guys have asked him over and over and over...Paul just makes it look easy, but there's a lot more to it than simply making the motions. You really need to be able to read the puddle to get good solid welds with good penetration as well as that great look. he's simply to the point where he can manage the 1st part and then manipulate the puddle to get that look.
