I have been welding stainless steel with 316 electrodes. 3.2 mm and at the start of the run i keep getting holes. Any ideas or info on how to stop this? Thanks heaps
Reply:You taking off too fast?
Reply:All stainless steel electrodes made to AWS specs. have low hydrogen coatings. While 300 series stainless is not suspectable to hydrogen cracking, the "low hyd" coating will absorb moisture. Use electrodes right out of a hemetrically seal container or follow  re-conditioning procedures by electrode manufacturer. Low hydrogen coated electrodes should be kept in a oven at a temperature of  atleast250°F.
Reply:What weldinglifer said. Also make sure base metal is clean and dry.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Nah taking off the same speed im welding . Ok thanks for the advice guys  ill try putting them in an over because they are just electrodes that come out of a packet.
