I'm just getting set up to start using Oxy/propane.  In the past I have used O/A for years, I have not had any equipment to use for the past 5 years, but now I have a need for my own equipment. but due to bottle leasing costs, I have decided to just purchase a contract for only Oxygen, and use propane for the fuel.  I only need it for cutting, and maybe heating and bending stuff.  I have no need for gas welding.... for the moment.       Does anyone know what pressures to set the regulators for O/P.  If my memory serves me right.  5 -7 for A.  and 35 - 40 for O.  for cutting.  What is the setting for Porpane?  I'm assuming Oxygen is still the same.      Also the tip change for a Victor torch. Is it very different?  Only a bigger number, or is it a different numbering system too.  I only want to cut up to about 1".  Looking forward to your replys  thanks.  Packrat
Reply:You can start at the same pressure as acetylene but the tip is definitely different and you need to get the right one.   Propane can be jacked up over 15 lbs and not be dangerous like acet, but 7-10 lbs should cut 1 inch with the correct tip.Get it hot and hit it hard...
Reply:That's great. I really didn't want to start it up until I had some idea of a safe operating pressure.   I'm making a trip into the big city on Wed.  I'll get the right size tip then.  Then go get my bottle of O2.  And if it ever stops raining up here. I'll be able to get to work.  I find you can only cut so much metal with a chop saw, a zip disk, and a sawsall.  Sometimes you just gotta use a torch.Lincoln 225 AC/DC, Hobart 140 Mig. Oxy/propane Victor torch.(2) Makita 5" angle grinders  one with zip disk, 14" chop saw.  and just about every other tool you can think of. Whoever has the most toys when he die's ..... Wins!
Reply:Most welding stores carry a book called Victor cutting and Heating guide. Its got it all in it.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:OK.  I'll see if I can find one.Lincoln 225 AC/DC, Hobart 140 Mig. Oxy/propane Victor torch.(2) Makita 5" angle grinders  one with zip disk, 14" chop saw.  and just about every other tool you can think of. Whoever has the most toys when he die's ..... Wins!
Reply:I read somewhere that Propane requires 85% of the flames oxygen from the cylinder, and natural gas requires 95% of its oxygen from the cylinder, compared with an oxygen consumption of as little as 50% for the oxacetylene flame.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
