anyone have any experience with an oxygen lance. had someone inquire about me going to work on a plant turnaround for him. We've got about 400000 lbs of stainless to cut out and scrap. the vessel walls are 4" thick. I personally don't have any experience running the lance- does any one else
Reply:Briefly: a steel pipe, usually filled with steel rods. The steel is the fuel. Uses oxygen like crazy, but very effective for many, many materials if cut quality isn't a priority. Ligted with an O/A torch (or other oxy-gas torch). The steel pipe is the fuel, and you will get an oxygen powered jet of molten steel and slag. Lots of heat. Lots of sparks and flame. Will cut cast iron and stone, even.
