Had a "person" come in to take a 6G weld test, Gave them 2 pieces of 2" sch40 Stainless pipe told them to give me a 1/16" gap and four tacks 90° apart, came back into the booth and this is what I SAW!!! I was speechless, was told that's the way they do it on anything over 2" Diameter. I've been welding since 1979 and never seen anything like this! How about anybody else, share your thoughts!!!
Reply:I have seen that a few times on pipe. It is common practice with radiographed alum dip braze assemblys.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Do it all the time on stainless. There bridge tacks.
Reply:That's how I tack anything if it needs a purge. Get your fit made then set your purge up right.
Reply:His gap wasn't very even. Looks like it would be hard to keep straight and lined up. I wouldn't do that unless I was told to, seems like it would take too damn long. If I was asked to bridge it I would rather put some dogs across it.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Those bridge tacks can be adjusted before the welding begins. But it seems to me that they could be "self adjusting" in the wrong way too.
Reply:QC would freak if we tacked away from bevel. This is the only way I've seen bridge tacks/bullets. Lay in a heavier size filler wire or round bar, a cold tack on both sides on bevel, now you can tape right over, weld to edge, grind out tacks and remove bridge material.
Reply:so you're saying they're NOT 90° apart?? lol 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! HTP Invertig 400HTP Invertig 221HTP ProPulse 300HTP ProPulse 200 x2HTP ProPulse 220MTSHTP Inverarc 200TLP HTP Microcut 875SC |
