I just bought a metal cutting saw from milwuakee tools to team up my chop saw with. I works amazing. Every tool I have bought from milwuakee works great. I used my saw to cut 1/2 plate on the weekend and it did fast with a nice burr free shiny cut that was ready to weld
Reply:Milwuakee is awsome, but I am dissapointed that they shipped some of their grinder production to Mexico. I have never seen a Milwuakee tool stop working. I have seen grinders with broken gear cases from being dropped, grinders so hot you can't hold on to them with a welding glove, etc... yet they all still kept running. I made sure to chuck the one with the broken gear case over the side of the ship because it wasn't safe.
Reply:Just last week I purchased a Hole Hawg with the T-handle and case. It was about 330 total. Much to my disgust, I pulled it out on the job site (80 miles out of town) plugged it in pulled the trigger, and all I got was a bunch of chattering noises. I was able to grab the chuck with my bare hand and hold it while the motor was running. At lunch I tore the back cover off of it and I couldn't believe what I found. The main drive shaft was broken. It broke so cleanly that I had a hard time determining if it was supposed to be like that or not. I took the drill back the next day and the store swapped it out no questions asked, but I was blown away that it ever made it to the store shelf in that condition. On a lighter note, the replacement is one bad mofo as far as drills go. You have to be careful that it doesn't get away from ya cause it WILL do some damage.
Reply:I'd bet that somebody else bought it and dropped it on the chuck, breaking the shaft, then returned it for exchange or refund.
Reply:A clean cut like that is an example of a failure in shear stress which is the result of excessive torque on the shaft. Maybe, someone jammed the bit which caused it to fail in shear and then the returend it?
Reply:I have the milwaukee 8.5 metal circular saw as well as the 6.5 cordless one, both tools are amazing. I just cut a lot of patch pieces of 1/4 in steel to repair a trailer winch stand. It honestly feels as if you are cutting 1/2 inch plywood with a regular wood saw, but its steel. A good portion of my tools are milwaukee and i have never been let down. My first 18v combo kit is almost 5 years old and i just barely replaced the batteries 6 months ago. All of the tools in the kit are still going strong and i use them daily at work. Have any of you used the v28 stuff yet? They are releasing a whole bunch more tools in that line in the upcoming months. (including a cordless metal saw). I will probably buy the v28 kit within the year, just need to sell the old stuff to someone first. |
