This might not be the correct forum and I'm sure the question has been answered elsewhere several thousand times, so please forgive me.  I'm a newbie to the forum and welding.  I have an AIRCO torch.  It's an older one and I'm thinking it's a 4700 or 4900.  I'd like to replace the "O" rings inside it.  Anyone know where I need to check to purchase them?  Local welder's supply?  Do you think CONCOA would have the parts and sell them to me, since I'm not "connected to the profession"?ThanksBTW, I also have the AIRCO 9100 series, dual stage regulators.  I'd like to rebuild them also.  I'd like to replace the rubber diaphragms and "O" rings.  Same question-welder's supply, CONCOA?
Reply:Try getting in contact with OAdoctor here or at his website...http://www.regulatortorchrepair.com/repairservices.phpIf anyone can get you the parts he can. Note however O2 regs are not something for the average person to be working on. Any sort of contaminants, even the oils from your hands, can cause ignition in the presence of HP 100% O2. Everything burns in the presence of 100% O2 and you won't even need a heat source to get things to light up. Simply the O2 slamming into the reg parts when you open the valve is enough to start the reaction if there is any oils or lint present. There are special cleaning procedures and lubes for working on O2 regs. This is one area best left to the pros. If you want to work on regs, stick to inert gas regs and get O2 ones rebuilt by someone who knows what they are doing..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:So, I might be able to do the Acetylene Reg myself, but I need to send the O2 Reg to a pro?
Reply:Possibly. Many regs honestly aren't that complicated for the most part, but you won't have a manual to work from in most cases. You need to be able to disassemble, clean and reassemble the regs by simply looking at the unit and taking it apart. Some regs are more complicated than others and may require specialized tools. If you are not fairly handy and have a decent selection of tools on hand, you are usually best off simply sending them in and having someone who does these every day do the work. F up one seal, oring or mating surface that isn't "disposable" and usually gets cleaned and reused, and chances are it will end up costing you more in the long run than if you had just had the pros do it from the beginning. Not to scare you, but this is really one area that going "cheap" usually isn't the way to go for the average person..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I do have the regulator's manual, but, I understand.  I know compressed gas can be very, very dangerous.  I used to SCUBA dive.  Add flammability to it and I guess you have the potential for a bomb."Never mistake education for intelligence."AIRCO Oxy/AccMiller Thunderbolt
