Ok I had some 2.5 by 1/2 flat stock rolled and when I lay it on it's side (1/2 inch side) it does not sit flat. The outside edges are about 1/4 inch off the table. And the middle is sitting on the table. I need to get it flat. And figure heating it should work. I just don't know where to heat it to do what I want. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.Offering CNC Plasma cutting and welding projects.Follow me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nobigdeal.fabSupport those that support WW.
Reply:Are you going to weld the joint? It's very common for rolled strips to be slightly helical. Just put the thing on a welding table and clamp everything down flat and weld it and it usually pulls it pretty much flat everywhere. If not, then tap the high spots with a hammer. I wouldn't use heat to try to fix that little thing.metalmagpie
Reply:Yeah it's getting welded into an "I" beam. The rolled steel will be the flanges and I plasma cut the center. The rolled steel was probably done to a 60 ft radius. (it's not much) it has a 4 inch rise in the middle of a 4ft long piece of steel. if that makes any sence.Offering CNC Plasma cutting and welding projects.Follow me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nobigdeal.fabSupport those that support WW.

Reply:Welding table and a hammer, or use a pair of big bending forks, one clamped to the table, one in your hands. They will need to be about 4' long to have the desired effect. I just corrected the radius and leveled out some 1/2 x 2 for a big window about a week ago. |
