Welding Employers in Canada

Hi guys, First time here so apologies if thios is in the wrong place.Anyone have any experience of welding for employers in Canada? I have heard of some employers offering CAD 40 per hour and covering the visa and flight costs. They want coded welders. Does this seem good? I thought they would earn more !The positions are in Alberta - around Edmonton area.Thansk Declan
Reply:$40 per hour is on the low side here. Also depending on where exactly this is in Alberta the cost of living is very high. If this is anywhere near Fort Macmurrey you can expect to pay about $2500 per month for a tiny one bedroom apartment (if you can find a place at all).People that work at fast food restaurants in some of the boom towns are pulling in about $15-25 per hour.I have friends doing pipeline work bringing in $250 an hour and their helpers make around $60 an hour.You get what you put in and people get what they deserve...
Reply:Wages are lower in Edmonton or Calgary but you get to live in civilization.  You don't need to go way up to Northern Alberta to live the good life.  If I was 20 years younger I would be in Alberta in a heartbeat.  I know the government is going to change citizenship rules.  They weighted the scoring system toward university graduates when we don't need them.  People with trades qualifications will be looked on favourably.
