how will it perform? gonna be doing it at work tomorrow. my boss just picked up the machine barely used for a grand. If the conversation isn’t money, then I’ll see you later.
Reply:Pipe is made in Schedule 40 wall thickness.  Pipe is made to a nominal size related to (but not exactly the same as) the ID, but is actually made to standardized OD and varying wall thickness based on the "Schedule" (bigger Schedule # = thicker wall and hence smaller resultant ID for the same nominal size).Tube is made to a nominal OD and a specified wall thickness. That said, just saying you are trying to weld some Schedule 40 pipe with a Maxstar152 is still not enough info, as the actual wall thickness varies not only on the Schedule of pipe but also the 'nominal' size. Example:  Schedule 40 3/4 inch pipe has a wall thickness of 0.113 inch (Maxstar152 should have enough power to weld that) while Sch 40 10 inch pipe has a wall thickness of 0.365 inch (Maxstar152 probably doesn't have enough power to weld that).  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Thanks and nothing that big mostly 1/4 inch and 1 1/4 tubing. If the conversation isn’t money, then I’ll see you later.
Reply:I ment to say 1 1/4... 1/4 tubingIf the conversation isn’t money, then I’ll see you later.
Reply:Are you welding Sched 40, or .040 wall thickness?Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:No a 0.25 thinkness mostly for framing for bikesIf the conversation isn’t money, then I’ll see you later.
Reply:1/4" bike frame? WTF kind of bike is it? Steel? Aluminum? 4130? Titanium?
Reply:Like a Bobber frame. If the conversation isn’t money, then I’ll see you later.

Reply:Sure a maxstar could do that. I just have a feeling the Lim-Fac will be you as the operator. Is this a bobber that will be on the road?

Reply:i can get the machine, a cart, all the leads, some rods and a helium bottle and regulater all for a 1,000.If the conversation isn’t money, then I’ll see you later.
Reply:Maxstar will not do AC. Helium bottle? You mean argon right? You failed to mention if you were doing TIG or stick. But, either way with proper joint prep a maxstar can weld any thickness steel, it just might take more than one pass.$1000 seems a little too much to me, you can get a brand new maxstar 150 STL for about $1400.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools

Reply:So far this has gone from Sch 40 to 1/4 wall thickness to 1/4" nominal x .088 wall to 1-1/4 x .140 wall and from helium (for Alu alloy?) to Argon (for SS?).  That's a lot of ECOs in one day!  Has the QA Engineer signed off on this yet?BTW: lm fac is Limiting Factor- MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:Wish you would have just posted that link first. Is it a good deal? Maybe. It's still a dc only tig with only 150 amps. For a little more money you could get a diversion. If you're building choppers with sch. 40 pipe, I'd think a mig welder would be more appropriate.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:Yea I'm just gonna wait for a diversion n most are done with tigIf the conversation isn’t money, then I’ll see you later.
Reply:For what its worth....Ive recently has the displeasure to weld some pipe in an attic, Bobcat not an option. Hardwired Maxstar150 to a dissconnect 208v for a circ pump.6011 root, 7018 fill and cap. When the fan kicked on I gave her a breather. 2" pipe, sch 40 and some 4" pipe sch 40. Worked well, but not ideal...Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
