What's the difference other then one is hot and one is cold? I'm "hopefully" closing on a condo this month and was thinking of making some end tables for my bedroom, the legs will be 2" square, 1/8" wall. I like the whole metal and wood thing, so I'm combining them. I never understood the differences, ( as welding is currently more of a hobby) and I want to buy the right materials.www.thefusionsolution.com
Reply:Hot rolled comes out of the smelter red hot and is rolled at that state to size. Cold rolled is formed a second time from hot rolled that has cooled to cold. Cold rolled rolling gets rid of the heavy scale caused by oxidation of the hot worked meta. It also forms the crystal structure into drawn out shapes which make it just a little harder and stronger. There are more complications than this but this is a simple answer and I do not want to dig out the book work to complicate this. Mac
