Reply:did you add any reinforcement under where the winch mounts to prevent flexing/twisting under load. Reply:I ilke the front one, hope there is enough room for body flex...can't wait to see what your rear idea will turn out to be.
Reply:I try and go with my own designs, to set my work off from others. Yeah ill be putting d rings on it. Hi lift will work with it. I got two bumpers and eight tube doors to build this week so my work on my own stuff takes a back seat alotvof the time.
Reply:The whinch plate is 3/16 and I did gusset it. The d ring mounts are tied into the frame mounts. The frame mounts run back 16 inches along the frame. For the rear I'm shoving 2x4 box inside the unibody then plug welding it from the outside. I'Lo cap the ends off with 1/4 inch plate to bolt thebumper to.Last edited by solarbarack; 01-15-2013 at 10:32 AM.
Reply:at first i thought.... thats an odd looking bumper for a jeep..... then i saw the finished pics and it looks great IMO. nice job OP.mike
Reply:Do you have any files of those bumper plans you could share here? I'd like to build one for my XJ.
Reply:It is different but looks really good, great weld and paint job. Keep it up!_____________________________www.sawblade.com
Reply:You mentioned you used 3/16" for the winch plate, but what about the rest of the bumper? Once the weather warms up, replacing the bumpers on my old '89 Toyota Pickup will be one of my projects. I have no intentions on adding a winch or using the front for any sort of pulling so I don't need it to be beefy, but I do want it to hold up reasonably well to normal abuse.I really like the look of the front bumper. Good work!
Reply:Really nice. Thanks for sharing.
Reply:I would use 3/16 all the way around for any bumper. But som areas like my back one I'm using 1/4 just for added strength with a receiver. But ill use 8th inch under the tail lights since the boxes will only be an inch hi. As for sharing the plans pm me and ill send you some generic dementions to get you started. But sorry can't post the exact ones I use, that's what pays bills.

Reply:Very nice! Good on you for staying with realistic material thickness. A lot of folks get too crazy with "strength" building a bumper, completely forgetting what it's there to do in the first place. I know I did. I used a big hefty chunk of 4" diameter .5" wall pipe for a bumper on a 78 Dodge Powerwagon once and called it my "Bambi Basher", up until I hit a deer going 40 on Douglas Pass in CO. The bumper didn't give a .001", instead it busted the frame under the drivers engine mount and twisted the truck so the rear tires tracked a foot left of the front and the cab and bed were smashed together right behind the drivers seat. My indestructable bumper destroyed my truck. I really like the lines on yours, even though it's on a baby Jeep!
