Does anyone know this type of saw? Is it a good saw and are blades still available for it? Attached Images

Reply:Google search found many similar machines. I'd give $50 just because I think it's cool. More like a mounted sawzall...if anything. I'm sure blades are available somewhere online. Reply:The bandsaw pretty much put those out to pasture, but if properly adjusted, nothing cuts straighter. They are slow and that's the biggest drawback. And Yes, you can still get blades for them. I have two, one working and one in storage. The last time I used it was to cut 6" square tubing and when I was done, you could put a square on all four side and it was dead on. $50-75.00 is about what they go for.
Reply:we had a mamoth power hack in an old shop i worked in for a few years i was bumbed when we went to the band saw the power hack had lost a gear when the idiot helper tryed cutting stainles with everything turned way up....what happened? i dont know i set it like we are suposed to for aluminium and boom the gear came apart.....grrrrr

Reply:Horizontal mill is to shaper as bandsaw is to...  I've never run a power hacksaw.  Always wondered what sort of cut rate they had.  I'm sure they're slow but how slow?  How long to get through a 1" round?  Also, are blades available in a range of TPIs or are they all "hacksaw" blades?Syncrowave 300Maxtron 450, S-52E, 30A

Reply:Just to give you an idea of the speed, it took 45 minutes to cut a piece of 3" bar. But it was dead on square and you never have any heat issues. Wendell is right, the bandsaw did in the power hacksaw, the horizontal mill did in the shaper, and the vertical mill just about did in the horizonal mill. Reply:I hadn't seen one of those since early 70's - some of the quy's i work withwould take the blades and make knives out of themThe main thing is not to panic or get excited Bobcat 250, X-Treme 12VS,  MM211Meltabo, Milwaukee,Porter Cable,Dewalt,MakitaVictor O/A, Ingersoll-RandEvolution Rage2, 40 amp PlasmaLincoln 225 AC/DC
Reply:Had one of those in a shop I sold a few years ago.  It was a lot bigger and had built in coolant tank and pump.  It did cut real straight.Draw backs were, it was noisy, not real efficient as it only cuts half the time but not a big deal to most people and if you are cutting smaller stuff all the time it only uses part of the blade.Blades were easy to get from our supplier at the time although I don't remember cost.
Reply:Seems like blades for that would be cheaper than buying blades for my bandsaw. Reply:A shop I worked at in the early 80s had a big Marvel power hack saw we would cut off       8"dia stock for furthur CNC machining.  I think the blade had eithe 4 or 6 TPI and shook the floor on the pull storke.  It was all mechanical/automatic with clutches and trip switches.  We saved a miss cut that was less than 1/8" thick that was true as could be.  Sold for $65.00 at their closing out sale.
