So i'm starting welding school here pretty soon and i've been in need of a welder and i've asked a questions here on the forums about some that's i've been offered  but I finally found the one that I just couldn't resist buying. I just got a Miller Bobcat 225 that only has 1381 hours, with a trailer, 100+ pounds of various electrodes, a toolbox full of all kinds of tools, pancake hood and one other normal hood, two sets of leads about 30-40 foot each. I'll post some pics in the morning because it's way too dark right now. The only problem I can tell is that it's missing the plastic switch to turn it on but I can use a pair of pliers to turn it on and the fact that it's half *** painted black with spray paint, i'm going to take off the black spray paint tomorrow. The greatest part is that I got it for $1,000 because the guy who owned it got sent to prison and his wife was moving and needed the money tonight. I think it was an amazing deal but what do ya'll think?Last edited by Jeromy_E; 10-21-2012 at 02:09 AM."Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. Reply:Stolen?
Reply:No of course not, her husband was a welder and he had a few other welders but she's selling everything because he's not getting out for a long while because it's like his fourth or fifth DUI in a few years and he got 10 years in prison for it. Trailer was home made but it had a title, if I had a single doubt that it might be stolen I would have RAN FAR, FAR AWAY."Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. Reply:Great find! With our soft justice system here in the Netherlands i don't think i'll find onevhere...
Reply:I'm often leery of "deals" like this. I've seen a couple guys get burned on a few of these, both  from the buyers stand point, as well as guys who were getting divorced. Usually the wife/ GF is selling the stuff either because of a divorce or because the guy cheated on her. He goes out of town and she unloads every thing she can as fast as possible, then splits with the cash...  Then all she has to do is claim it was all "stolen" after she left. I've seen a couple of guys who "lost" a lot of both personal tools as well as business stuff because of a vindictive wife who sold all their stuff out from under them before the divorce. At worst, the wife could claim  that it was all "jointly" owned, hence she could sell it, but the plan was really just to dump as much of the stuff he liked as possible to hit him as hard as she could.Legally chances are she may or may not have had the right to sell his stuff even if he was going away for a long time. It's sort of a gray area if shes moving and doesn't want to haul the crap to a new location. I always try to make sure in situations like this I get a receipt, preferably notarized. It usually simply lists the sellers basic info, name, address, DL number ( photo copy of the DL is preferable) and lists the basic info on what I'm buying with serial numbers. Along with that it states that they are the owner and have the legal right to sell the items. The accountant says I need a receipt for my business anyways for tax purposes. Most won't baulk if they understand why, and if they do, then the sale may not be legit anyways and it might be best to walk away..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I didn't have time to take any pics today because i've been out all day trying to find a cheap victor torch and some bottles, got a victor torch and regulators and 20 ft hoses for $75 at a flea market, so I decided to just go rent bottles for a year from Airgas because everyone wants an arm and a leg..."Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. Reply:So I finally got around to taking the pics I said I would, but I cleaned as much of the black spray paint off before I took them. Sure, there could be other circumstances surrounding the situation, but it would be pretty costly & time consuming for this guy to haul you into court to get it back. You have legal grounds being you have a bill of sale & title. Kinda hard for someone to just accuse you of buying stolen property.I bought a Trailblazer 280 NT from a rather large, profitable construction company on ePay for $1500. 230 hours on it, running gear & cover. It was Pepto Bismol pink!I was a little apprehensive at first, the guy had hardly any feedback & the price was so cheap. After meeting him & seeing how much machinery they had, it was obvious it was a legit deal. Turns out they just didn't need it anymore. He had it professionally painted & all their job boxes etc were the same color. Theft deterrent I guess Not a bad deal at all. Repainting it will be easy & a new face can be purchased from Miller if you feel like tearing it all down.Cool!
Reply:When I worked for rental houses our welders were often stolen. I thought mine too may have been stolen when I answered the add on CL. When I got to where I was going and the name on the truck was the same on the welder, I fealt better. Im my state unless a trailer is over 7k it dosnt need a title or a tag. Real easy to say, thats my trailer! I have a tital for mine that I keep with me when Im using it. I like the fact that I can take my welder where ever. Makes it nice if someone breaks something while cutting hey, I can go to them. Theres only 3 guys in the area that have moble welders that Im aware of.Learning one rod at a time

Right now I just want to get the knobs for the start and and the volts. I'm going to get my uncle to paint it back to the Miller Blue and put the Miller and Bobcat stickers on it probably next month.
Reply:It would only take a few minutes to have your local Sheriff's department run the serial number. Reading between the lines in your OP there is a bit of "doubt".Have the numbers run, document it with the other parerwork and your good to go. When the time comes for you to sell it, you will have the paper trail. http://discussions.texasbowhunter.co...d.php?t=301223Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
