Hey just a quick question. The shop that does some work for us has a cnc plasma cutter they want to get rid of, still works but has not been used much in 2 or 3 years. Reason being is it is old technology and laser cutters and water jets are used now. Said they would sell it cheap a few thousand dollars, I guess they are about $15k-20K new for the setup.I know that they don't do as good a job as lasers but does anyone how usefull they are and what used ones are worth? What is the rate for cnc plasma/hr? Around here laser and waterjets get $120/hr. Can you get $50 - $65/hr from a cnc plasma? Was thinking for personal use, and doing odd jobs on the side (discounted below market rate).www.overtimeequipment.com
Reply:There are still being used by many companies. A CNC water-jet produces a much cleaner final product. The NEW style CNC plasma's are even very close to the water jets. I get various small stuff cut (under 4" x 5" )for various projects for about $5.00 per piece. The nice objective with those units is quantities can be made very easy. I'd say buy it, if you don't I'd like the information on it and possibly buy it.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:It doesn't look like right now I would be picking it up. It doesn't seem like they seriously want to sell it now. They still use it every once in a while. Thanks for the info, I am going to keep my eyes out to try for another one to buy!www.overtimeequipment.com
