As it sits now, my 70cf tank is upright in the cart I have.Too big to easily get in/take out of my jeep.I would like to make a compact cart, possibly with collapsible legs(like an ambulance gurney) but would need the bottle to be horizontal to be feasible.I searched, and only found one thread, that rapidly turned into a pi$$ing contest wth some ill informed members.Functionality being my ONLY concern, is there a reason I shouldn't have my bottle horizontal?
Reply:The only bottle I personally won't use layed down is an acetylene  bottle
Reply:and the only reason for that is the chemicals in the bottle that combine or break down (cant remember wich) dont mix properly causes a purple flame.... any way all other bottles should be fine as they are all compressed gases
Reply:I assumed as it was gas, and no liquid in the tank, horizontal would be kosher.
Reply:If you are talking about compressed gas...NO PROBLEM.  I use oxygen bottles in the horizontal position all day long with absolutely NO problem (oddly enough, on gurneys, in the ER).Now, if you are talking Acetylene, DO NOT set it on it's side (or, if you transport it on its side, set it upright for several hours, before using.  Acetylene is dissolved in acetone in the tank and the acetone needs to settle before you start using it).I would guess you would want to be careful LPG (propane), since it is liquid at the bottom and gas at the top.KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:C25 tank.
Reply:you can even use inert Gas bottles on there side only one you can not is Acetylene but you can transport all on there sides but have to wait hours after putting the acetylene bottle up right before useLast edited by WeldorWes; 02-28-2013 at 04:43 AM.Miller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
