I am looking to get some plans on a 2" guided bend test machine for our welding department. Does anyone have any plans for one of these?I have a basic one drawn up on paper but I was wanting ideas on how to get it done right! If you know of some let me know. Thanks,JoshI am thinking of one with a 12 ton pneumatic jack that I have laying around. If I get time I will post the sketch I drew up.Last edited by mack5555; 10-18-2010 at 03:20 PM.

Reply:Thumbs up for the SEABEE  Steelworker pub.  It is right out of the AWS SENSE QC10:2008 there are a couple of alternatives shown there also.In our lab we used a couple of 2" dia. Cummins diesel wrist pins for the shoulders and I made the upper mandrel from some 1 1/2" dia. 4340.  We used a 30 ton shop press to push the upper mandrel and the test piece through the wrist pins.  The wrist pins were welded to some 1 x 2" A36 with 308 SS wire which in turn were welded to some 3/8" inch plate.  Hardest part was hardening the chrome moly. Reply:My guess would be yes.  A36 has a minimum yield strength of 36,000 psi so 3/8's of that would be 13,500 psi.... so the 12T should work.I have seen a couple that use what look like a 12T bottle jack or 10T ram.http://www.sawyermfg.com/pdfs/guidedbend-25.pdfThe shop fabricated one was here when I started.  It was in pretty bad shape and we've never used it.  Mandrel  on the jack ram is only 1 1/8" and it must of used bolts for the upper ones.  Good idea that wasn't executed very well. Reply:Should be able to , I can hand bend 2" x 3/8" on my shop outfitters bender. I was using that a a quick and dirty bend tester to test some of my practice welds at home. Reply:Thanks for your ideas guys I will put them to good use
Reply:Anyone else have any blueprints on these?
Reply:Sorry to bring up an old thread but I just bought a strap bender (tensile tester) from herehttp://www.sawyermfg.com/index.php/p...ensile-tester/I was wondering does it only measure the elsticity and breakage of the material being tested? If not what does it measure and what else is it capable of measuring?ThanksRobert
