Where can I get the best deal on #2 lead wire without waiting for an online order. Looking for 100'
Reply:My local Praxair guy didn't stock #2. The local Airgas guys did. Price wise their price wasn't too bad vs online when you added shipping to the deal, and 100' of wire isn't exactly light. The other bonus was I could walk out the door with it that day..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Yeah I'm finding the price online to be half the in store cost. I'll have to call airgas this morning. Their site appears to be down at the moment.

Reply:Found a ridiculous deal at praxair guys thanks for all the suggestions. The hand there sold me 111' of #2 at just over a buck a foot. 100' 1/4" o/a hose for the cost of a 50' and number 4 bottles for so cheap I feel bad!
Reply:Awesome!  I was going to suggest finding the used tool stores near the chemical plants (if you have those in SA). I frequent the ones in Pasadena.  I buy 50' of #1 with whatever I want on each end for $60.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:I didn't think about getting a hat I'll have to go chew the fat em sometime today and see what I can work out lolGravel. I looks into used and balance reel wire but I couldn't find much used what I did was pieces that were 15-25' long for the $50-75 range
Reply:Never hurts when a counter guy takes care of you to keep that in mind and take care of him. I always give my local guys a christmas card and either $20 so they could buy lunch, or a gift card for the local sandwich shop. I do that for my mechanic ( usually tell the head guy to just order pizzas for the crew one day when I have my truck in for inspection around that time of year and have him toss the cost on my bill) as well as most of my other supply guys that I deal with regularly.I find it does a couple of things. One they always know and remember me when I come in. I'm not just another anonymous face in the crowd. 2nd they are often willing to go that extra mile or give me better discounts even if I don't buy huge amounts of stuff like some guys do. It's helped me many a times when I'm running late and need them to stay open a few minute extra so I can pick up something, or on occasion have them leave my stuff outside so I can grab it when I make it there so I have it for that emergency job. The old counter guy at my LWS even gave me his cell number and mentioned he lives about 2 blocks away from the store if I ever got jammed up on a weekend and needed something in an emergency. Also doesn't hurt when they have free stuff to hand out to customers. They usually stash a few goodies off to the side to give me when I come in the next time around. Hats, gloves, soap stones or whatever the reps bring in either when they do demos or when they visit. The counter guy usually socks away a bunch for his best customers before setting the rest out for guys to grab. I also find the guys are more willing to spend time with me when I have odd problems that I need to find solutions for. They are willing to spend the time looking in catalogs for items or make a call to a supplier to see if they don't have a solution, even if I'm not going to spend big money..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I'm hoping to connect cables to extend the leads on my Forney welder but haven't found a source/pictures of such.  Is there a way to mic the leads so I know what size to order?   I have the cable, just need to connect them. Thanks guys.....I'm not dumb, just old  and I'm probably a better musician than a welder !!
Reply:Here's the copper sizes that I could find in my notes. My guess is your cables are most likely #4 or maybe as thick as #2 judging by what is on most small machines. You might want to do the connections with something like Tweeco quick disconnects. That allows you to easily make the splice, but not have to use all the cable, all the time. I cut the leads on my old Thunderbolt and added QD's to the short cable out of the machine. That allows me to use the rest as a short light weight stinger, and use the heavier cables from my other machines on it if I want to. I can add to one side or both as needed.Gauge  American Wire Gauge4/0             .4600"3/0                 .4096"2/0                 .3648"1/0                 .3249"1                 .2893"2                 .2576"3                 .2294"4                 .2043".No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
