After I’m done welding, I’ve been noticing that I repeatedly have to nip off some of the stick out on the new  211 I purchased.  This never happened when I used the other new 211 and I've used that 211 after using mine and it didn't happen. In other words, I don't think it's me. Could be but.... I truly don't think so. --The wire speed on my 211 seems fine… actually all of the settings seem fine. I’m pretty sure the unit is threaded properly because.... I didn't thread it after the spool that came with it ran out and had to be replaced. The manual  doesn’t address  this issue of the MIG gun continuing to feed for a second or two after I’ve lifted my finger off the trigger, http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o239988e_mil.pdf.  I guess the best way to describe what's happening is that I'm having a problem with run out.... it's as if the trigger is sticking.  Any suggestions on how to stop this?  Is there a setting inside the MIG gun that doesn’t appear in the manual?--Any advice would be greatly appreciated.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:Are you sure it's actually running?  I get that issue when I hold the gun too far out away from the work.  Try pulling the trigger and watch the wire (without welding).  If it does run on, contact Miller or your dealer.  If not, it is most likely user technique.
Reply:Check your manual about menu settings. I'm not familiar with a 211 but on a 252 I believe that would be under the burn back settings.

Reply:cope> "most likely user technique" EXACTLY what I was thinking because I'm not all that consistent when I weld. It's running out a little.... I watched yesterday when the man teaching me used it. He's not so anal about nipping down 1/4" or so of excess stick out. Me.... I'm too inexperienced and have to nip down otherwise I seem to have trouble getting a good start. --M J D> "I believe that would be under the burn back settings." Thank you for the correct term.  --Broccoli1> "No Burn back settings on a MM211" If burn back settings had been discussed in the 211 manual, I don't know that I would have associated them with this issue.... 1st I've run across that term is here... in this thread. Here's where I'm at.... yesterday morning I did call the dealer and described what I was experiencing. The dealer said the MIG gun that comes with the 211 has a micro sensor in it and that it's possible there is a problem with it. He said he'd call tech support and get back to me. About 10 minutes later he called back and told me to bring the whole machine in for a full exchange. Seemed wasteful returning a perfectly good machine because of an issue with the MIG gun so I asked him if only the gun could be exchanged and if there was something I could do on this end to ensure it was really just the MIG gun. He said that was fine too and suggested I put my MIG gun on the other 211. I can call him back later on this morning and let him know that as of yesterday, it is only the gun that may need to be replaced. Before I do that though, I'd like to rule out "sticking". My 211 isn't at my house.... it's over at the house of the guy teaching me. I'll be going there again next week and should have no problems opening up the gun to expose the "trigger guts" as you suggested. Problem will be what to look for without a diagram. Can you tell me what you saw that indicated your trigger was sticking and if you can remember.... what you did to "unstick" it please. I'm not at risk of voiding my warranty by pulling apart the gun.... they already offered me a replacement MIG gun and stated that if that didn't solve the problem, they'd be happy to replace the entire unit.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:You got offered a full exchange, WOW . Have them send you a new gun or take the machine back and get a new one.
Reply:There's nothing wrong with the machine I was sold.... it's the MIG gun. If the trigger is just "sticking" a little as suggested by Broccoli1.... there's no need to even request a replacement MIG gun. --Question for you.... what's that yellowish orangy little icon thing beneath your username please? Just curious.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:Good one.... a person on a pee run.  I enlarged it to get a better look-see and thought it looked like a person doing calisthenics.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:Any chance you could of got some spatter on the trigger which could be binding on the mig gun housing? Dirt ?  I had a millermatic 140 that had a bad connection on the switch, The original owner used to wrap up the mig cable very tightly which caused the connection to become loose.  I just had my smith regulator fail on me ( 2 Weeks Old ) so I will be contacting my LWS to get it replaced instead of trying to fix it.
Reply:Grandslam99> "Micro sensor?? Maybe a Micro SWITCH in the mig gun!" Ohhhh.... I'm sure you're right. Sensor... switch.... I was close.... real close. They both started with S.  Thank you so much for the correction. --MX727 & NinjaRay> Ah ha.... a link of some sort that goes somewhere. Thank you both. If I knew how to instant message.... I'd probably go play with that feature just to see how it works.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:This is Interesting!I guess, I'll need to go play with my Miller to see if the wire continues to feed!My first response would have been "Probably Normal as there are a bunch of Capacitors inside the Unit".Take the gun over to the neighbors house, test it, take it directly to the LWS for an exchange after verifying they have the replacement in stock!Don't waste your time trying to look at the micro-switch.
Reply:NinjaRay> "Any chance you could of got some spatter on the trigger which could be binding on the mig gun housing? Dirt ?" Sorry, I missed your reply.... I must have been typing when you were typing. There's always a chance of that but no... no splatter or dirt. It did it new out of the box. --drujinin> What's interesting is that it's still doing it.... just not as much. I'm thinking Broccoli1 pegged what's going on. I'm going to use it next week and if it continues running a second or so after I've lifted my finger off the trigger.... I'll do what you said and just ask for a new MIG gun. The more I thought about opening up the gun.... the more I realized how ridiculous that was being as how I'm NOT an electrical engineer.  I'd probably be able to locate the micro switch but what to do once I located it would be well beyond me....MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:I understand the mind set that comes with trying to fix things yourself, or not wanting to send back something that isn't broken, just the broken part. However from their point of view, it's the fastest and easiest way to satisfy a customer. Be glad that's Millers way of doing things vs some importers who would have you tearing the unit down and trying to fix things yourself even if you don't know what you are doing, or sending it back and waiting who knows how long for that slow boat from China with new parts.... Millers customer service is excellent.I agree chances are high simply swapping out the gun will solve the issue. At least on most of the units made in the last 10 years or so most of the guns from Miller are interchangeable, so if your friend has another Miller unit, you should be able to swap out guns and check things out quick if you want to. I had a switch go bad on my MM185 gun years ago. It wasn't too hard to swap out but it took me a bit to figure out how to get it all back together and get all the wires inside and not pinched..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
