Using an very old miller AC welder these are the first two welds I was able to come up with. 6011 set at 85 amps. I luv my mig but want to get proficient with the stick welding, any feed back would be nice, GOOD or BAD ......THX Attached Images

Reply:Hahaha.......I thought I might catch some heat about the s.h.i.t.t.y welds and then you point out my s.h.i.t.t.y vise.......didnt see that coming??
Reply:i have that vice too, home depot "wilton" haha its not great for squeezing much, but i use all the time to hold things for welding/grinding. Not too worried about destroying it!
Reply:Looks better than my welds but I'm still learning. I don't weld code. I really want a mig and I'm getting ready to buy a thermal arc 211 or 252. But I plan on continuing using stick. I want to get as good at it as I can with stick.
Reply:Not bad for a warm up. You need some plate to weld on

Reply:I had that vise, too... until I snapped it in half two weekends ago. At least it was cheap. Going to buy a real vise this time.__David Hillman

Reply:Used 1/8" 6011.......but went and picked some 3/32" 6011 and both 1/8" and 3/32" 6013.....gunna give them a shot this weekend........and about the vise, would not recommend doing any heavy pounding on them.....leave that to a ATHOL
Reply:Ran some 3/32" 6013.....didn't touch the heat setting......ran real nice and the slag peeled right off.......seems to be the electrode for me.. Attached Images |
