Ok I know the right answer is to keep both however space and usage seems to be a issue as well as simplifying things. Currently running a lincoln 256 and a magnum spool gun for alloy and really like it. ... I haven't really run very many machines to compare, before this one I was mm175I have a bit of acerage and a 7 bay pole shed that I work under lots, the house is built in loft above a smaller shop space downstairs Not the kind of shop you really want to make a mess in. Anyways leaning towards engine driven in the shed that can double as a backup gen set for the house. The engine driven would have to be able to work with a spool gun for aluminum as well as stick. Almost all my welding is aluminum boats and alloy tubing. Can get good deals on used ranger 250 acdc units as well as ranger 9 (although they seem loud, would have to fashion better exhaust ). Machine would remain primarily stationary under cover and fuel or cost of fuel isn't an issueAny thoughts? Stuff I am missing?Jeff
Reply:Any thoughts on value for a 256 still under warranty in new shape and a magnum sg spoolgun in good shape with some extra tips etc located in northern bc

Reply:If you have the money , pouring a pad in the pole barn and using the engine drive to power the mig would be a great solution . if that is out of reach then you might consider doing an engine drive / suitcase combo so you still have your wire capability for the thin materials and alloys .
Reply:Currently have the Trailblazer 301g with VS suitcase and would like to get a MIG like yours when a deal comes my way. Keep the MIG and look for a deal on engine drive with CV and get a VS suitcase welder. If you live on the Gulf coast a welder generator is must have. Sounds like you need a Ranger 305g
Reply:Thanks for the replies true true I will likely keep both really I need a standalone shop that I can make a bit of a mess in been looking at the ranger 250 I don't think any of the 305 have ac capabilities...
Reply:Buy a big genset and plug it in 12500 watt should be ok. |
