This weekend I decided to make a set of coasters.........The base was scrap 3.5 X 3.5 inch 1/4" steel.......The uprights was some strange hexagonal stuff out of an old paper shredder I used to have and dissected when it broke...... I cut them to 4cm..... (I only had a metric tape measure handy.....).....The coasters are 5052 cut with a 3 5/8" hole saw.........I then worked on the coasters to smooth out the edges because the hole saw made them jagged.........60 grit flapper disc to remove the burrs.....60 grit sand paper on an oscillating wood sander.....  to get the edges smoother.....then....120 grit sand paper on the same sander..... to make them smoother..... then.....400 grit sand paper to finish up the edges....... then......handed them to Ava and asked her opinion....... "That's smooth daddy......" Good enough for me.....First..... pics of the parts all roughed out........(first pic is sand blasted)........ Reply:I got some rubber(ish) shelf liner and some spray on adhesive for the coasters.......Pics of the coasters after the rubberized base was put on..... this was after the 400 grit sand paper treatment and approval from Ava....PICS..... Reply:Nice, neat idea. Do you have a combination belt/ disc sander ??? That would be one handy tool. After you get it you'll wonder how you did without it.

Reply:Mad Cool Idea FEXAL! A polished finish would really set them off! How about a all polished stainless set for the next one!  Attached ImagesI hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
