I saw it on CL and was thinking on going to take a look at it.  I talked to the seller and he said that the fan kicks on, but it doesn't do squat when you push the trigger on the MIG gun.  He even purchased a brand new gun for it, but still nothing.  He's "asking" $75, but I'm pretty sure he'll take around $50.  I currently own an SP100 and absolutely love it.  It's about 18 years old and has been used alot through those years in my dad's bodyshop.  I was thinking about getting it for projects around the house, but want to know what the experts here think.  Even though the price is OK due to the new gun on its own, I would like to get it running again.  Just don't want to spend a fortune in the process though I could keep it for parts??  Is there a difference between the Idealarc SP100 and SP100?  My unit doesn't have the Idealarc in front of the SP100 and the face display is different. And finally, any ideas as to what's wrong with it?  I know I'm not giving you squat to go by except it doesn't feed the wire, or really do anything when you press the trigger.
Reply:I pulled 2 SP125s out of the dumpster. One had a slot burned in the PC board so I took the good board into the better of the two and had a good working machine,I gave the other machine away and it was reported that they got it working but I don't know what was wrong with the PCB.I do know that a new Magnum 100 gun is 150.00 or more.I use it for flux core only as I have an SP 135 I use for solid wire and gas and I have to say both are good machines when used within their designed limits.
Reply:I have an SP100 that I got in the mid 90's when they were new. Had to have the board replaced under warranty. The wire would (barely) feed but was not controllable. The service center said the failure was caused by metal dust accumulating on the circuit board, which is mounted upside-down at the top of the case.If a fix is not easily made, I'd trash it and keep the gun.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:The pcb is no longer available from Lincoln.Miggun, and Diodes are all still available.Need to find out if power is getting in the welder and through the line switch.Test the trigger wires from the miggun and see if they short when trigger is pulled.Cooling fan runs all the time. If welder powers up. Gun trigger turns weld voltage on and then weld voltage is used to power the drive motor control circuits and the motor.Gas valve should close with trigger pull.Take your welder along and use it to test the miggun.Unless it is working don't spend much.
Reply:Thanks for the info guys!!  I think I'm gonna pass on it.  Even though it's available for pretty cheap with a brand new gun I have bad luck meaning it's probably FUBAR'd and would cost more than it's worth to fix.

Reply:I have used my SP 100 with FCAW on 3/6th at full bore and got good penetration. I was doing the same thing as this project, a beaver tail for a car trailer. I mostly used it for thin sheet metal as a GMAW machine. But when not doing sheet, I switch over to FC. Dandy little machine for that.Until you grab someone's 200A unit. Sigh. I just don't have much 230v ooomph out in the work area. On the OP's trailer, I think I see that he thought about bisecting the angle, but he had too much of a bite drawn out with his soapstone. At least he didn't make that mistake. __________________
