Anybody familiar with a Henrob torch? Also know as a Dillon and/or Cobra torch I think. I've been hearing a lot about them in my car magazines. Anybody like them or dislike them? I've seen some of the weld beads at a demonstration, and I know I can TIG better than that, but the cutting was awesome.
Reply:Yes I have a Henrob torch. As oxy acet goes thetips on this torch are great. I was told a flame is a flame. I since have found this not true. The flame shape is definitely a step up. Much more pinpoint and precise than any other torch I have used. Only thing I didnt like about it was the weight. So I adapted the Henrob tips to a Victor J29 copy. Definitely much lighter with the same flame. But I like my Tig much better. A lot easier to control.I even tried my hand a welding stainless with the acet. It was ugly but I got good penetration. Could do it in a pinch. As far as cutting I am not as good as the videos they show. I am sure the torch is capable. I just need some practice.mm135HTP Invertig 201 With water cooler9" Southbend LatheLots of hand tools.
Reply:If you use a reducing flame while welding stainless, the weld appearance will be much better.
Reply:Ok, so what does a J29 torch look like. I searched for it and couldn't find one. And I forget what a reducing flame is. Is it more oxy, or more ace.? And, is it really worth the money to buy it if I can tig well already?
Reply:I've got one, it is nice, but not really that much better than a conventional oxy. It does have a nice concentrated flame, but the handpiece is very heavy after a while. If you get it right, the cutting is awesome - I've just never managed to get the cutting quite right...

Reply:Yes it was a rich flame. I also had Solar flux on both sides. That was probably what made it look so bad.My bad J28 not 29http://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/we...epot/140T.htmlIt is a bunch ligter than the henrob. And easier to adjust. I took a large tip for this. Cut off the end an silversoldered on a tip adaptor I bought from Henrob. That way I can use the Henrob tips.mm135HTP Invertig 201 With water cooler9" Southbend LatheLots of hand tools. |
