gday all, i recently picked up this vintage light, from what im told its an old flood/spot light from an airfield, going by the green colouring possibly ex-military useIts pretty cool if you ask me, original glass, and the fixings to hold the glass in are made of brass. My creativity is quite lacking to say the least so im putting it out to you guys to try help me come up with some ideas to do with it.Also if anyone knows anything about these style of lights or can point me in the right direction of someone who does id be much aprreciative
Reply:I have the mate to that one.  I salvaged it from a dumpster when they rebuilt one of the airports I used to call home, several years ago.Mine was used to illuminate the wind sock at night.  There was the original radio beacon tower, which also had the rotating beacon mounted on top, the wind sock was supported on an arm from the side just below the beacon with the spot lamp aimed at the beacon.  The spill over light also lit the refueling area. The OD color was typical for such fittings of the era (I was told the tower and lights were originally installed in the early 1920's) and could be from either a CAA facility or a military facility as the towers were part of an airmail system.I had to rewire mine to 110 VAC as originally it was powered by a 90 volt 400 HZ. power supply along with the runway lights.  Mine hung for many years in my shop/hangar on a bracket I fabbed up just for it.  It was just a conversation piece there, but my intention was to eventually mount it on a pole in my backyard and use it as a floodlight for the patio/deck area.COOL find!  Hope this helps.RogerRogerOld, Tired, and GRUMPYSalesman will call, Batteries not included, Assembly is required, and FREE ADVICE IS WORTH EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAY FOR IT!Dial Arc 250HFThunderbolt 225 AC/DCAssorted A/O torches
Reply:First of all, SEND IT TO ME!  (Only joking...but I have been looking for a piece like that FOR YEARS!I would mount that on an old, wooden surveyor's tripod.  Unless the body of it is made out of steel, I'd strip all the paint and polish everything.  If you wanted it to light up, I'd rewire it for a regular, 110-volt, medium screw base.  You don't HAVE to wire it for light, but it would be cool with one of the low-wattage CFL color bulbs in it.Very cool find!  Show pics in progress and finished.KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:I think it would make a nice chandelier over a dining table.  Figure out how to hang it without damaging the original metal and rewire and polish the brass.Lincoln 175Monkey Wards 230v.  Stick

Reply:One of my customers used to have a porthole that looked very similar to that as an end table. He had a light underneath it and used it as accent lighting..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
