I been want a mig for a while and was offer a used only a few times Lincoln power mig 140 for 350. Is this to high or ? How much should I be looking to pay for a 140? I want the 180 but no 220v. Just don't know anything other the the new price
Reply:What type of "140" is it?  There is they "140T" and the "140C" model.  The 140C model is the "best" 120v MIG welder Lincoln makes.  I wouldn't touch the 140T model.  It has tapped voltage settings (vs. continuous) and for a 120v machine, it's more difficult to get proficient at welding unless you've had some training.  For a used 140T model in excellent condition, I still wouldn't pay over $200.00.  For the 140C model in excellent condition, $350 is a good price.   This is just my own opinion and a "starting point" for the price.  Condition is everything and will dictate the final price in the end.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:Hello and welcome. I haven't really paid attention to prices on those, but looking at the new price as a comparison, price seems reasonable if everything works and is there.Keep in mind that you will be limited to 1/8" material under real world conditions despite what the manufacturers lit might say. Most manufacturers over rate small migs. Also keep in mind this max is based on you giving the machine a dedicated 20 amp outlet to run off of. If you run on a 15 amp breaker, use a long extension cord or have other things plugged into that circuit, reduce max thickness accordingly. Small migs are great for sheet metal and body work, but many users almost immediately outgrow them for many projects. Many homes have 230v power available, though many don't realize it. If you have an electric dryer, you have a 230v outlet that will run a small 230v mig. You will just need to build an extension cord with the appropriate ends to match the dryer outlet on one end and the welder plug on the other. Check out the 220v extension cord thread here for more info on how to build the cord. An electric stove is another place where you typically find a 230v outlet in a house. I ran my old stick machine off both types of outlets when I used to live in apartments at various times. If you have a basement with a readily accessible panel, you can also just instal an outlet near the panel, then run the cord say out a window and weld in the yard if need be. I've had to do that as well on occasion. "Lack" of 230v power isn't as big a deal as many make it out to be.Extension cord threadhttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=11537.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:It is the " C "power mig model I just bought a condo and I have 220v in the basement but don't think the condo board with let me run a 220v line to the garage  it was that or keep renting forever. Attached Images
Reply:$300-400 is not too out of reach for a machine with some extra tips and a large spool of wire on board, if the machine is in good condition. If you see one posted for $200, it has had a hard life. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:That pic doesn't look too bad.  I would only recommend you change out the ground clamp for one that's a cast bronze type.  Cost ya around $20 bucks or so, but they are so much better than the ones Lincoln puts on their machines now.  I actually think they have a contract with Harbor Freight on those "dual purpose" (welder ground/jumper cable) clamps!  I think you'll be happy with it.  Just remember it's limitations.  About 1/8" steel and with pre heat and a 20Amp or higher outlet, you can weld thicker steel.  You can easily go 1/4 welding with that for NON-CRITICAL welding projects (art, patio chairs, work bench fab'n, etc...)   Just don't try to weld trailer hitches, bridges, roller coasters or cannon barrels.  Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:better check with your condo board to see if you can even use it around the condos, most places i've heard wont allow welding..  my dad's condo doesnt allow welding unless its approved by the board.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
