hi everyone, just joined this site, its amazing. We have just gotten a xmt  304 in our shop, it has a 60 series 24 volt wire feeder. I was wondering if any one here has any suggested settings for using the mig  to do 16 gauge sheet metal?  Were having an issue getting dialed in, either were not getting good penetration or were blowing holes in it.  Thanks
Reply:I'm inclined to believe that you are over powered for the material you are working, I've used the 304/60 series combos myself on both pipe and plate and it works excellent in a medium duty fabrication environment but have never seen it used for light gauge.
Reply:I don't have listings direct for the XMT304. The info in my file lists 14 ga and 18 ga info however for the MM252 in volts and IPM, so that info should cross over roughly. Gas listed is 75/25. 14 ga. using 75/25 gas.023 wire   18.0v 240 IPM.030 wire   17.3v 200 IPM.035 wire   16.5v 190 IPM 18 ga. using 75/25 gas.023 wire   17.0v190 IPM.030 wire   16.3v 115 IPM.035 wire   15.8v 120 IPMI can't verify these numbers, but the settings given for 1/8"  in my chart are very close to what we run on the XMT's at the tech school..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:I use mine every day on 16 ga. You need to be using light gauge wire too, .030 or .035 works fine.
