MIG stainless to mild steel?

I know a lot of guys TIG welding mild steel flanges with 304 piping for manifolds and such, but can you do it with a MIG?  With stainless or regular wire?Id like to finish up my exhaust but I cant get anyone to cut me a stainless flange...Any help appreciated..  Thanks guys.

Reply:No worries about corrosion so use the same wire you would use for mild steel. Want to weld it with stick, use 7018. Either will hold.
Reply:While any mild or stainless filler will physically work it's not a good idea, especially for this application309 is 'over alloyed' specifically for disimillar joints (carbon to stainless) to prevent the weld from becoming hard and brittle
Reply:I've made probably a hundred welds of grade B seamless pipe to 316 stainless pipe used in waterflood systems. These systems ,depending on which field they were in, ran from 2500 to 3000 pounds pressure. They ran 24/7, year in and year out. Not one of them ever failed. Every one was welded with 7018 rod.
