Slow day in the shop

Today is going pretty slow at the shop so I decided to tear into our BURNEY 2.8 CONTROL unit for our plasma.  Last week it went down so we have been on the phone with tech support all week long with no positive results.  We found out that they don’t support that old of a board so our only option was to buy an upgrade for $3673.  So I figured that I could check some power sources and maybe a resistor or two.  But once I got the control board out, I noticed that it had a lot of socketed chips.  I pushed them down into their beds a little tighter and fired the machine up.  And what do you know?  It fired right up!  So I gave the owner a call and told him that I wanted a $3673.00 raise.  Maybe I’ll get lunch out of the deal.  -MikeCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:Good Job. Its amazing what little things cause stuff to break. Most people would have paid $100's to have it fixed. Reply:I may have spoken too soon.  It crashed again and I can't get it running again.. I'm thinking it is a faulty chip. Oh well, it was a fun ride while it lasted.  Now we are thinking of swapping out the Burney for a pc based unit from candcnc.com.  A much cheaper and simpler solution.  The machine has crashed twice this year for a total of $4000.  Each time costing a servo controller card.  Hopefully we get up and running soon because the backlog is getting bigger and bigger.  Not to mention that I am getting tired of so much layout, cutting and grinding.-MikeCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
