I went to my local airgas today to get my 60cu.ft argon bottle filled and when he told me what it cost I almost fell over. It was almost 60.00, Is this right or am I getting ripped off. The last time I went I paid 30.00. Thanks Steve
Reply:$60 including delivery 40 miles for the biggest argon tank here in northern Colorado.

Reply:I had to quit using Airgas. Their prices are out of control. They were getting $70 for a 160 Argon to exchange a cylinder. I went to another local place and it's $55. For CO2, Airgas was getting $38 for a 20 pound cylinder exchange. The new place gets $25 out the door. Go figure.Last edited by gnm109; 10-01-2013 at 10:36 AM.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set

But I didn't want to fill out a 3 page credit application with all my personal information on it just for a freakin' cylinder.

Reply:80 cf pure argon exchange in Greensboro NC 40$ at airgas. The consumables are cheap though as long as you buy radnor brand. Gas lenses for like 2.25$ cups .75-1$ depending on size. I'm working on a different supplier near my work he says he can get me 75/25 ar-he for that 40$ish price. Air gas usually marks up 15% if you cry poor and the salesman isn't a con artist they will be more reasonable. Reply:I asked one local shop here and they told me theirs was $50.00 bucks the 1st 100 cf with a break for additional cf in the same tank. I didn't get into any details beyond that. Reply:I have to find a better dealer for argon, I'm getting low. Everybody around here is around 65.00 for an 80cf bottle that I own. I have to hit the phones and do some price checks
Reply:In Hudson NH there's a small LWS, about 4 months ago I leased a 125 cu ft C25 tank for $58 and had it filled for $50. I called airgas that morning and they wanted I think $275 for the same size. Plus I'd rather do my business with the little guy all day long.
Reply:Last week I got a 244 of argon filled for 29 and a 244 of c25 filled for 32. A buddy of mine pays 65 for a 125 of argon at Airgas. These 2 places are 5 miles apart...GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:I'm stuck with Corp Brothers or Airgas, or the few LWS that get gas from them. The closest Praxair is over and hour away. Local Airgas won't fill owner tanks, at least when I asked years ago. Corp Brothers will only fill up to 60cf owner tanks, and only exchanges 20 or 60s. I asked about a small 40cf that I have, they told me it would take 2 weeks to fill???I end up getting mine from a LWS that has 2 locations that's supplied by Corp Brothers. $65 for 80cf of Argon, real nice people though.
Reply:Originally Posted by copeI dealt with AirGas from 1993-97, buying certified cal gasses.  They are under the impression that all their products are worth the grossly inflated prices they charge.  I left the valve open on my 122 Argon a couple of weeks ago, and a swap out at Praxair was $28.  This thread, like all the ones before it show the futility of trying to compare gas prices except in your own backyard.
