Die set for making hose clamps

I wanted some custom clamps made to tidy up the hydraulic hoses on my press.  I spent a portion of my day making die set.  The pics show the die set, then forming a clamp in progress, and finally the finished product (minus bolt hole).  The clamps are 304 stainless 1/8" thick, by 3/4" wide. Reply:Boostinjdm, I was thinking of this thread while making some hydraulic fitting hangers today. Not my design... a copy of the customer's part. Hydraulic is actually a misnomer as they are dry lines used to shield electrical cables to the fixed line release on a helicopter. It would have been a lot faster to press them out. Like Fnord5, I too would like to know if your planning on adding a punch mechanism to to it all in one shot.  Attached Images
Reply:I'm not going to mess with adding a punch for the hole.  I can cut to length, form, and drill a clamp in a couple minutes.  The material just says 304L on it.  I don't know if it is annealed or not, but I chose the stainless for 3 reasons.  I had it on hand.  It will hold it's shape.  It won't rust.My name's not Jim....
Reply:I use these when I make trailers with hydraulics. I also used them for the custom transmission cooler I built. I ran hardlines for it. These clamps worked awesomely.The base is steel. I weld on the base and then just screw the top down on them. They are sized perfectly for each hose size. But your project is way cooler. I can't say I made my clamps! Reply:I looked at those clamps, but they wouldn't fit where I wanted to clamp the hoses.  Plus, they're kinda ugly....My name's not Jim....
Reply:Nice job!But did you copy me? lolThis side of the car I just welded 3 different size tubes together for the different lines then drilled threw holes between the tubes. I welded together about a foot of tubing and then cut out the small clamp sections.This side was two tubes welded to a square stock in the middle same deal, about a foot of length welded up and then cut up into clamps.Last edited by VPT; 04-25-2013 at 08:41 AM.

Reply:304L is typically sold in the annealed state but will harden with cold forming.
