Reply:Clear coat them with a can of Rustoleum. Or better, "Cronak" (yellow), or anodize them silver/yellow. Do the box also if its aluminum. If the box is steel, electroplate it yellow zinc with the hex-chrome iridescent yellow (aka: "Type II). The irredescent of the old " hex chrome" chromate conversion plating would look "classy industrial," like rainbow gold! Just take it to any zinc plater. I know it's hard to place a dollar amount on time, but you can't buy that type of CRAFTSMANSHIP. Really COOL. Do they come with instructions ??? BRASS ?? How much would material be ??? Maybe stainless ? Etsy has some neat stuff. That;s where I saw some silverware pieces. So, now I started playing with that.

Reply:I thought of something. If I was going to make up a set of these, I'd probably do a bit of layout and set up a set of stops on the drill press or mill to make these faster and easier. There are only so many positions you have to drill. Example: Center dot. Set a stop for left side and how far in, then put in the #1 dominoes and drill. Remove and insert the #3's and drill, then the #5's... Then reset the stops to set up for the top right dot for all the appropriate ones 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and so on. If the drill press has a depth stop, so much the better..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:That is a great idea..... like a little jig for the press......it does have a depth stop..... and I have been center punching my holes and then drilling one domino piece all the way out and then moving to the next......I'm thinking with a jig like you are talking about....... and with the punches so the bit doesn't wander....... the whole set may be drilled much faster........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:I checked your etsy site. Clocks look great!http://www.facebook.com/LockhartMetalArthttp://www.facebook.com/pages/Grumpy...44306259043484
Reply:You can save yourself time on the center punching if you set up a jig for that as well. Set it up so you slip the domino in the jig, then stick the punch thru a predrilled hole. Size the hole for the punch you plan to use. Drill the jig for all the hole locations, and just punch the ones you need on each one. This way you only really have to lay out the jig super accurate, and the jig does all the layout from there.I'd probably skip the center punching myself. If you are worried about the drill walking, I'd go with a center drill instead. Just find one where the guide point is the size you want the dots to be, and the larger dia. shaft will help prevent walking. As long as the drill chuck will take the main shaft, you are good to go.A vise and a cross slide table would also help simplify things. I really wouldn't even need a jig with the vise on my table top mill. I'd just set the top of the domino at the end of the vise and rest it on some parallels and use the table to adjust the positions. I'd just have to punch out a master to use to locate the 1st location of each dot and then simply set everything to the same point.Last edited by DSW; 04-02-2013 at 10:29 PM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Another update.......I have received a few messages on Etsy on these dominoes.......Apparently precision is important because people play professionally..... Like poker for example......It turns out that a less than perfect piece will allow a competitor to "cheat" by reading the imperfection while in play.....Ill jut say that this amazes me..... Reply:If you're going to do a bunch, a little fixture to hold the pattern Domino over and lined up with the blank would be handy. Just something that both pieces slip into. A set of centering punches can be had for quite cheap too. Might find them easier and more accurate than a reg. punch. Just thinking out loud The metal Domino's would look cool with the hole drilled right through.
