So one of our distributors came to the shop pushing these Diamond X disks. He says they last as long as 70 regular grinding disks. At $130.00 a disk I told him that I wanted to do some homework. The one thing I did tell him was that I buy grinding disks based on how well they remove material or the finish they leave but for 130.00 the thing better be just shot of magic. If you have used them, love them or hate them please join in. Thank You.-Keaton Attached Images
Reply:Welding Instructors for my college went out to Vegas for the show there... guy was demoing those disks on a piece of already shiny steel... our guys told him to do it on the rusty steel. It didn't do ****. At all. They brought one back to test out for ****s and giggles, and it was toast before they finished a 2x2ft piece of steel sheet.Miller Performance AD Helmet - Camo Edition Soon to have: Jackson HSL 100 - Forest Digi CamoMiller Thunderbolt AC/DC((Currently at welding school))
Reply:-Lights great info. What you said is just about what I was expecting. Thanks so much for confirming. -7A749 You and I are on the same also. Great price on the 50 grit disks I will have to look into that. That price would save me a ton of money I cant buy them around here for less then 4 buck a piece. Thanks for your time.
Reply:Diamond is not good for grinding carbon steel unless you have cooling.  Heat will cause the wheel to wear quickly."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

They make a very good product & the price is quite reasonable. I bought Norton for years, but after I got the first pack of discs from these guys & compared performance along with pice, it was a No brainer.I'm picky about abrasives. I went thru that stage of buying the cheap stuff from those traveling Homier sales &  Harbor Freight. Didn't take long to figure it out thankfully.
Reply:Sbchp355... I have a 6" diamond wheel sitting in my shop. It's brand new, a customer returned it when he dropped it on it's edge and knocked it out of balance a bit. I'm not going to use it, so if you want to try one, pm me your address and I'll send it your way monday when I get back to work. Why buy it for $10 when you can build it yourself for $100.
Reply:I wonder how well these would do on aluminum compared to a flap disk.
Reply:diamond doesn't work well for grinding steel .  the carbon in carbon steel forms a chemical bond with the diamond (pure carbon ) which dulls the abrasive .  CBN wheels are used for grinding tool steels , diamond wheels for grinding carbides and ceramics .
